Still on the waitlist? There are *22* Firefly Express combined event + bus tickets available to anyone currently on the waitlist. Important information to know: - Buses leave from Boston area at noon on Tuesday 7/4 and Wednesday 7/5. - Riders will be permitted one large suitcase, one carry-on size suitcase, and one day bag. Read on and use the gear truck! - Buses will make a 30-minute stop in White River Junction, for riders to buy groceries/perishables. - If you do not receive your wristband ON THE BUS you will not be permitted entry. That is, if you buy this ticket you may not arrive at Firefly in any other way except the bus. New Camping Areas and New Path for This Year New Camping Areas This year, available land for camping and Firefly activities has been extended to include the eastern side of the Butterfly Blvd field. Some people are planning on camping inside the tree canopy near the rock wall parallel to the stream. Enjoy the shade! Please note: there is no camping or Firefly activity allowed inside the forest side of the wall in the new camping area. Please see the map below for clarification. The event boundaries also exclude the further-north field & any other grounds beyond the Butterfly Blvd field. Do NOT bring your chainsaw, weedwacker, or machete to clear live trees in the new camping area. Do NOT bring a mattock, a leaf blower, or rakes, and terraform a new campsite. Find a spot that is mostly clear already. You may remove dead and dangerous branches. Also, don’t forget to look up and check for dead trees that could come down and fall on your tent! There are ample high-quality forest camping spots in this region, for small and larger camps alike. To help with maintenance and preservation, we ask that you spend some extra time re-naturalizing your campsite before your final departure. New Path There is a new footpath that connects the Butterfly Blvd Field to Redacted Road to the back of the Back 40. True to its designation, this new footpath is for foot traffic only; no ATVs/Polarises allowed. Please note it’s more of a bumpy rocky path than the more established trails at Firefly. Watch your feet! Have fun! Event Boundaries / Off Limits Areas The new camping areas and new path are near areas that are Off Limits to Firefly this year. Please stay within the event boundaries; do not trespass into the Off Limits areas. Respect the Stream Boundaries In the new camping areas and the new path area, please be respectful of the stream boundaries. Do not leave the marked path. Do not climb down to the stream or interact with it. As always, never dump anything in the stream, and kindly keep your urine, greywater, and any sort of non-water liquid at least 100ft away. Please do spend as much time as you’d like passively engaging with your eyes and ears. We are taking a conservative approach while we figure out how best to reasonably enjoy this delicate natural water feature while also ensuring its conservation. If you want to interact with the stream, please do so at established locations such as the Water Shrine or near Bring a Cup. Nudity in the Butterfly Blvd Field! Butterfly Blvd Field is not within view of the road; as with within the forest, nudity is allowed (unlike in the burn field – don’t be naked where you’re visible from the road please). In general, this newly-private area of the event can now be considered similar to the woods in terms of conduct and permissiveness. Lost And Found Update Hello fabulous Fireflies! An update to the Lost and Found collection site: In the Glowbe we stated Lost and Found would be by upper portos, this has changed: The bin will be at a more centralized location near Rangers. Rangers will very kindly be holding valuables such as keys, cell phones, medications. Their capacity to help with this is limited, please respect that their attention may be needed elsewhere and practice patience when attempting to reunite with your items. Please do not bug the Rangers for your lost blinky toy, hat, water bottle, etc! REMINDER: LABEL YOUR SHIT Our Lost and Found heroes may be able to reunite you with your items *if* you have done this! They will be circling major camps each day and bringing items to the L&F bin. Name, camp, email / phone number are essential information. Safety at Firefly - How to Help Us Help Keep You Safe!

There have been some changes to the Safety Cluster this year, so please take note! *First Aid:* A contracted agency (NorthBeast) is providing first aid services to event participants. EMTs with festival/event experience will be staffing the First Aid station (right by the Rangers) during the entire event. There will also be self-service basic first aid supplies available at the Ranger Station, and some Rangers have basic first aid skills, but it is recommended that theme camps and individual Fireflies bring their own basic _first aid supplies_ <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/packing-list/>, as well as all personal medication. *Community Education Event:* While NorthBeast will be providing first aid and medical services, Firefly First Aid Volunteers will be hosting a community education event to help Fireflies be more prepared to help ourselves and each other with basic first aid and more serious injuries and conditions that could happen in the woods. If you want to learn some skills, look for details in the WWW! *Rangers* Rangers are friendly Fireflies who can help! This year, they will be wearing bright green t-shirts or vests. All Rangers can help connect you with NorthBeast for first aid/medical needs, and can escalate an emergency response if necessary. *Med Alert Cards* There will be medical alert cards available at the Ranger station for anyone to pick up to fill out and carry with them so they can be better served in case of an emergency. These can cite specific medical or mental health conditions, or any consideration someone would like responders to be informed about. . *In Case of Emergency* In the event of an emergency or a more serious medical issue, FIND A RANGER OR ANYONE WITH A RADIO. This is the best and quickest way to ensure a 911 call will find you. Rangers will escalate to the OODs, who have a plan in place to help outside emergency assistance find and access participants in need in the fastest way possible.

Sanctuary is a calm and serene place where Fireflies can come to ground themselves and to reconnect with their intentions for the event. This year, the Sanctuary team has picked the theme of *community*, and we ask for your help in creating a space where Fireflies can go to be surrounded by physical reminders of the love that we all have for one another by contributing to our community shrine. You can participate in two ways: 1. Bring an *offering* for the shrine! This offering can be any non-hazardous object that reminds you of a time when you have felt connected to Firefly and the community. You can bring your offerings to Sanctuary during Firefly, or you can contact us before the event to arrange a dropoff in either Somerville or Bethel. 2. E-submit a *piece of text* that resonates for you! We will do our best to bring them down safely, and if we can’t we will put caution tape around the area. • **Do not terraform your campsite!** You may use a rake to clear branches and sticks away from where you plan to place your tents/structures, but you can’t turn your campsite into a construction project. Bringing leaf blowers is strongly discouraged - if you blow all of the leaf litter away from paths and your campsite you would be leaving just dirt, which with a little bit of rain turns into slippery mud. • **Do not cut down any trees/saplings** - even if they are in your way - anything that is growing vertically is to remain vertical. Anything that has already fallen down and is in your way can be cut down to smaller pieces and moved out of the way. Sharp dead branches on the pines that are hanging at head level or below may be trimmed to avoid accidents. • **Do not make new firepits** - there are established firepits in certain areas. If a fire is started in any of the firepits, it must be monitored by at least one person at all times, and there must be a bucket of water nearby. *Questions? Firefly Land Update

Dear Fireflies, Part of the land where Firefly happens has changed hands. The long-time land-owners of the horse farm property on the other side of the rock wall from Laurelin, where we have upper parking and much of the woods uphill from Diode, sold last week. The important news is that the entire property was purchased by Dennis Zografos, a member of the Firefly community, with the express purpose to allow Firefly to continue in its current location. For Firefly 2023, the use of that property will be as it was in prior years, with the same rental agreement, with the new owner Dennis. Full disclosure: Dennis is a current Firefly Board Member. Correctly managing this payment within the Firefly bylaws structure is important to Dennis and the board, as is the transparency of this arrangement. The future development of the newly purchased land is in its nascent stage. Four members of the community, Dennis, Sage, Carly, and Dan, are creating a business entity to align with the values that are held by the Firefly Arts Collective organization <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/what-is-firefly/> and a plan that can accommodate our brightest collective visions. You can expect more information to be forthcoming in the next few weeks, including a detailed FAQ/Q&A about how this came to be as well as an invite to a community discussion during Firefly. Ice Hole is happening! Donate to the ice fund here: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8UJ6AzGj4w Do you want to get ice from a local ice vendor to refill your cooler during firefly? Here's how it works: Donate money, in any amount, toward the ice fund. I'll call the ice vendor and make an order, and then I'll take the money we raise and buy as much ice as we can get and have it delivered to Firefly on each day of the festival. During Firefly, when the ice vendor shows up, if you're around, you can help unload and stack the ice, and then carry some bags of ice up the hill and spread the word about the ice delivery so we can get it all into coolers before it melts. The Ice Hole is a collaborative project that everyone can participate in: by donating money, distributing ice to neighbors, bringing coolers to store it in, making and sharing fresh food and frosty beverages, and making sure there's plenty of ice all over the mountain for when people need it. So when you see the Ice Hole fill up, grab a bag or two, spread the word, pass it around, make sure it gets used, and we'll get more the next day. These grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Vermont over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. We are now accepting applications for our *final* grant category, Smol Grants! These grants are available between $40 and $149, and are meant to help cover expenses associated with projects of a small (or “smol”) size or scope. We love smol projects! Small projects fill the woods with art and give an opportunity to people who don’t have the time or resources to commit to something bigger. Call for New Board Member Candidates for Firefly Arts Collective

We are looking for motivated participants to add to the Firefly Arts Collective Board of Directors to expand the size of our team and fill positions vacated over the past few years. The Board is responsible for the financial and legal obligations of Firefly Arts Collective Inc. The Board is also responsible for planning the long term development and growth of the organization. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings (currently virtual) and contribute several hours of work per week on a year-round basis. We also are specifically looking for a candidate to take on the role of Treasurer, to coordinate bookkeeping, reporting, and financial planning. Keep this in mind as you work to identify candidates for outreach and encouragement. Through the new Board candidate process we wish to further increase the diversity of our organization, both in terms of demographics, skills, and ideas, to best represent both our Firefly community and the surrounding artistic and cultural communities from which we draw. We welcome suggestions of participants to include in this process, and greatly appreciate community support in outreach and encouragement. Other qualities we’re looking for in Board candidates include the ability to execute projects from beginning to end, ability to participate in consensus decision-making (and the cooperation that entails), showing initiative on new projects, being actively involved in the Firefly community, and having attended at least one Firefly in the past. We are also specifically seeking a participant to serve as Treasurer. The Treasurer prepares and files all Firefly tax documents, publishes an annual itemized list of income and expenditures, reimburses board-approved expenses, and is responsible for Firefly’s financial account management. The Treasurer serves on the Board Finance Committee to collaborate on decisions regarding Firefly’s ongoing management of finances.
