And the Post Office has totally unreasonable hours. Online reg for the Ticket Lottery ends tonight!

Hello Fireflies! In order to enter into the Ticket Lottery for the first chance at getting a ticket offer for Firefly 2014, you need to have your information filled out at http://tickets.fireflyartscollective.org by midnight tonight. Please note this is only a deadline for the *Lottery*. Signing up in the ticketing system will remain open until... well, probably up until the event! Anyone who signs up after tonight will be added onto the bottom of the waitlist in the order in which they provide us their information. However, due to the increasing demand for tickets in the past few years, your best chance to receive a ticket offer is by entering the Lottery. Another upcoming deadline: once you are registered, you must get your signed release form into the mail by Wednesday. This deadline is based on *postmarked date*, not date on which we receive your mail. Whether you are in Somerville or Abu Dhabi, as long as your local post office puts a mark on the mail saying you gave it to them by March 26, you will be set for the Lottery. (This is, in part, why the registration and postmark deadlines are this week, yet the Lottery won't happen for another week or two, sometime in the first week of April.) Good morning everyone- If you are a Firefly Ranger or want to be a Firefly Ranger please read further. If you are not a Firefly Ranger or do not wish to be a Firefly Ranger- go ahead and hit the delete button. It will feel good! _________________________________________________________________ Enclosed is a survey to guage interest in Rangering this year. This information helps us see where our needs are as an organization to help support Rangers while at Firefly. Please fill it out at your earliest convenience. Right now it's looking like sometime the Weekend of April 4-6 for the Teams Meeting. I am thinking a two hour meeting should work. Possibly Friday or Sunday early evening. 6-8ish? Firefly Silk Grants

Greetings Creative Type Peoples, Just a final reminder that the 2014 Firefly Silk Grant Applications are due tomorrow, Saturday, march 22nd by 11:53PM (EST). The Firefly Arts Collective is looking towards being a presence in the community beyond our annual week in the woods. We feel strongly that there is more than enough creative energy in our community to sustain “the good stuff” year-round and to bring it home to share with others. In particular, this letter is to inform you about the first of these projects, an art grant program to specifically bring Firefly art to the Boston area AND to Firefly. *THREE $1,000 ART GRANTS - THE SILK GRANTS* To help celebrate Firefly's 12-Year Anniversary, AND to get our cool, larger art out more into the general community of the world, we are looking to once again augment our usual Firefly Art Grants with something special. This year we present the Silk Grants: 3 separate art grants of up to US$1,000/ea. Our goal is to provide these ambitious projects more money to work with. These larger than usual grants come with the stipulation that you must be willing to show them at least 2 times this year. This is a completely different call for art from your normally scheduled Firefly Art Grants. INTERACTIVE & PARTICIPATORY In keeping with Firefly Arts Collective’s Mission Statement, we will only be considering projects that are interactive and participatory. SIZE Due to some space limitations, we need to make sure there will be room for as many artists to show as possible. So, we ask you to please limit the size of your proposed piece to 10’ x 10’ x 10’. EASY to ASSEMBLE/DISASSEMBLE & TRANSPORT Make sure it is easy to put together and take apart, since you’ll be doing that a number of times. Also think about how you will box up your project for safe transport. Transportation will be provided to and from both venues if you need it. DURABILITY Your installation will always be set-up in a public space. Make sure it is not too fragile or particularly dangerous. WEATHERPROOF Your art will be presented at two outdoor locations, Acts of God and inclement weather happen, so be prepared and design accordingly. Please make sure your installation is weatherproof. NO FIRE We’re SOOOO sorry, but in order for the pieces to be approved by FIGMENT and the Rose Kennedy Greenway, we will sadly not be accepting applications for fire art. :( SAFETY CONCERNS Safety should be thought about as you come with ideas. Fast spinning objects, sharp edges, anything that could inadvertently hurt a participant should be avoided. There will be children involved in all three venues, especially at FIGMENT Boston. DAY and NIGHT VISIBILITY Art for the Silk Grant MUST be effective and engaging during the light of day. Nighttime elements and visibility are encouraged as well. POWER NEEDS Power can and will be provided if you need it so please don’t let that limit your ideas and DO NOT add a budget line-item for power. Save The Date! Safety Third Getaway Weekend May 16-18

What is Safety 3rd Weekend Getaway you ask? Well let me fill you in. It is a training/social weekend for Firefly Medical, Rangers, Sanctuary and FAST (Fire Art Safety Team) volunteers. TJ Kozma and Deanna Duffey will be hosting this first ever event for Firefly volunteers. The location will be at our house in Scarborough, Maine. 15 minutes south of Portland easily accessible by bus and train from Boston. We have plenty of inside meeting/sleeping space in the barn, carriage house and house if needed. Should be nice enough to be outside though. Plenty of yard and forest space for camping and meeting. Bring yer tent! We are still in the planing stage but it would go something like this: Friday May 16- Arrive Friday evening - informal- get settled in set up tent or other inside location to sleep, maybe some social activity. Saturday May 17- Training day. - Breakfast, together team building activity for everyone, Break up into volunteer groups. Everyone does their own team training. Break for lunch. After lunch. Each group receives an abbreviated training on each of the other groups. For Example Rangers get an abbreviated training in Medical, Sanctuary and Fire teams responsibilities, and how they work. After everyone rotates through crosstraining. Then as a group radio training. Dinner. Bonfire, fun, social stuffs. Sunday May 18 - - Q&A- brainstorming day- Breakfast- As a group. Ask a Ranger, Ask a Medic, etc. Q& A time. Anything anyone ever wanted to know about each department. time to ask. Department leads responding. Also an open discussion on how we can work together as departments to increase the safety at Firefly. Lunch,or snacks and clean up. Head home. Its going to be an awesome opportunity to get involved, get trained and meet other Safety department Leads and volunteers. There will be a small fee to attend of $20 this will go towards food for the weekend. Bring your own drinks. More information coming soon. Firefly Announcements & Ticket Reg Postponement

Hello Fireflies! Some practical announcements about Firefly this year: - The dates for Firefly will be Tuesday, 1 July 2014 to Sunday, 6 July 2014. Yes, we're extending! Firefly is now a six-day event. - The cost of a Firefly ticket will be $85 + transaction fees. The event size will remain the same. - Parking passes will be required this year, costing $20 per car. We've been short on parking at previous events, and we want to incentivize carpooling (last year 850 Fireflies arrived in 609 cars). The funds will help pay for repair of the lots and roads, which are damaged by all the traffic--especially when it's muddy. - Due to technical difficulties occurring on Ticketing's end, we'll be pushing back ticket registration a few days. Ticket Registration will now open on Friday, 7 March. We're sorry for the inconvenience. - Ticket Core
