The woods will provide us an environment of inspiring beauty. Our job is to create a world within it worthy of it. Are you an artist? Bring your work to firefly to have it seen be hundreds of open-minded participants, or to place it deep within the woods to be found only by a few wanderers. Feel free to think big -- we have eighty acres of natural gallery and performance space to fill. In fact, space can be your art. Pick a portion of the wood and turn it into a place to dance, eat, chill, chat, or think. Camping can be your art. You and your friends will need a home for your time here, so why not make it an awesome one? It could be a place to welcome friendly strangers to party, relax, share food or gifts, or celebrate the things you believe in. Gifts can be your art. Feel free to bring something special to share. Teaching or learning can be your art. Feel free to bring wisdom to share. Clothes can be your art. You'll be journeying to a place far beyond your everyday life, so feel free to dress (or undress) accordingly. Have you never been creative? Firefly is the perfect place and time to start. Anything can happen at Firefly with collaboration between participants. If you have an idea but need volunteers, materials, transportation, or advice to make it happen, find out if other participants can help by posting to FireflyBlink (the Firefly discussion list - please see the mailing list section of the newsletter.) If you will need a certain type of site for your project, or would like to plan ahead where yours will be in relation to others', please write to firefly-art@chaoshacker.org. You can also write here with any general questions about art and theme camps. We'll have a stage with amplified sound. If you'd like to be on it, and you are a musician, write to firefly-music@chaoshacker.org, DJs email firefly-dj@chaoshacker.org If you have a talk, class, or workshop to share and would like to plan a time and place, please write to firefly-art@chaoshacker.org Fire will be allowed in certain areas with certain safety precautions. If your idea involves fire, please write to firefly-fire@chaoshacker.org Electricity will be available on a limited basis. If your idea requires it, please write to firefly-dpw@chaoshacker.org Firefly is a leave-no-trace event, so plan to take out whatever you bring in. Be prepared for weather. Show respect for the woods. *********************************** CALL FOR MUSICIANS AND BANDS *********************************** Hark! Fellow mistrals and wizards of sound, this is a herald to call forth ye spirits. In other words this is a call for musicians to play at Firefly, which is celebrating its third year, yahoo! That's right, a fabulous festival celebrating creative forces deep in mystical woodlands where the muses roam free and starlight vision lights the enchanted nights. Come one, come all and embrace the illumination of the great Firefly spirit! This is not your typical venue, and that you'll be doing things like wrapping your equipment in tarps in case it rains, and carrying your amps through the forest. Firefly doesn't allow vending so bands won't be able to sell cds but we have always gotten a good amount of email addresses for mailing lists and made connections and friends that have changed our lives. This is truly one of New England's most spectacular events. If you're interested please send the link to your website to firefly-music@chaoshacker.org or let us know what you sound like and when you can play (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night). Thanks and hope to see you there! *********************************** WORK WEEKEND *********************************** A work weekend will be held on June 18th-19th. We will be building a stage structure, digging holes, clearing brush, cutting up wood to burn - all kinds of wholesome outdoor exercise. If you are interested in going up that weekend for the work and camaraderie contact John at firefly-volunteer@chaoshacker.org. If you have a specific project to work on, or skills to contribute, great, come on up! There are also plenty of things to do or learn for those of us with less direction or experience - weed whacking is very satisfying! The plan is to go up Friday night or Saturday morning, work during daylight hours, and gather around the fire and tell tales at night, returning Sunday night. We will try to coordinate carpools and food for the group; if anyone would like to organize these aspects for the 18th-19th please get in touch with John at firefly-volunteer@chaoshacker.org. There is a possibility of another work weekend occurring the week before the event, the 25th and 26th, if there is work left to do and volunteers to do it, but this is not certain as of yet - it will be a smaller and more impromptu weekend if it does occur. *********************************** FIREFLY MAILING LISTS AND EMAIL ADDRESSES *********************************** There is a Firefly discussion list named FireflyBlink for all participants in Firefly to exchange ideas and plans.
