Fireflies,

At this time of year we’d normally be frantically planning for our trip to the woods, but in 2020 our possibilities and our priorities have changed due to the many happenings in the default world.  Our mission is to "foster a collaborative environment and community," and to “extend our concepts of both community and art”. Our activities are about providing a platform for that work.  Recognition of the pain in our community about injustice in the greater world absolutely has a place here.

As the individuals serving on the Firefly Board of Directors, we all feel strongly in support of racial justice and equality, and condemn violence and oppression against people of color in all forms.

However Firefly is a community-driven organization, and we're wary of simply speaking on behalf of all Fireflies -- anything we say might sound false or forced. Instead, we want to support all of you, and elevate voices that need to be heard in this moment.

To this end, we’re soliciting contributions for a special edition of the Firefly Glowbe to start conversations on what we can do as a community to support justice and equality, in our community and beyond.  Please send your thoughts to communications@fireflyartscollective.org to be published in a week in our Announce mailing list [https://lists.fireflyartscollective.org/listinfo/announce], and join our Blink discussion list [https://lists.fireflyartscollective.org/listinfo/fireflyblink] and Facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/firefly.arts.collective] to be part of a broader conversation.

We want to elevate the voices of Fireflies working towards justice. If you are working on projects to this end or want your voice heard, the forthcoming message from the Glowbe will have more information.

Sincerely,

Firefly Arts Collective Board of Directors
