It's time to talk about placement and
who wants to be on the map? For those who don't know, while there's a
lot of open camping in the woods at Firefly, most or all Theme Camps and
Art Installations have set locations organized by your friendly
Placement Core!
The DEADLINE for placement submissions is May 26th at 11:59pm
The first placement work weekend is June 8th and June 9th, starting Saturday afternoon and ending Sunday afternoon.
Below are our policies. Please read them so you understand how this all works.
If you have any questions about placement please contact us at placement (@) fireflyartscollective (dot) org
Art and Theme Camp Placement Policies
1. Last Year's Site and Possible
ConflictsThemecamps
returning from last year will get first dibs on the spot they had last
year. If there is any conflict between former members of a themecamp
that has split up, or anything like that, Placement Core will attempt to
resolve any conflicts together with any representatives of the camps
who have signed up for the placement work weekend and attend it
(who will receive priority over camps without representation at the work weekend).
2. June 8th and 9th starting Saturday afternoon is Placement Work WeekendIf
you have at least one representative of your camp or project at the placement work weekend and like to choose a specific spot (and
didn't already have it last year), Placement Core will work with
you/them to look at the available placement options and help you/them
pick the one that will work best for you and for Firefly as a whole.
3. Submit but no-show at Placement Work Weekend
If you submit a
camp/project form to Placement but don't show up at the first placement
work weekend, Placement Core will attempt to select a spot for you. If
you send an e-mail saying "I want to be at 22 Verdant" or whatever, and
fail to have representative at the first work weekend, Placement Core
may ignore your location request and place your camp/project according
to the collective best interests of Firefly.
4. If you Choose Not to Submit a Placement Form.
If you DO NOT
submit to Placement but you're bringing a theme camp or large art
project to the event, you're on your own. You won't be on the map,
you'll have to find a spot for yourself when you arrive at the event
from among the areas not already claimed, and if your camp makes a high
volume of sound (or a moderate volume of sound but too close to a mapped
sound camp), Nick of the Sound Core will find you and ask you to turn
it down. If you have questions or concerns about sound at your camp
contact: soundcore (@) fireflyartscollective (dot) org
5. Fire and Sound
We
will be asking for contact info from two members of your camp to manage
Fire and Sound. There will not be any new sites for in-ground fire pits
or amplified sound. Any fire other than camp stoves for cooking must be approved by the Fire Safety Core. Fireworks and tiki torches are not allowed. All propane tanks must be stationary. If you have questions or concerns about fire or sound at your themecamp contact: fire (@) fireflyartscollective (dot) org or soundcore (@) fireflyartscollective (dot) org
6. Leave No Trace
We are asking Themecamps to have a designated
Leave No Trace contact person for their camp. This person should be your
camp’s LAST member to leave the area that was designated for your camp.
They will be responsible for all items left at your camp. It is highly
recommended that they also volunteer for Firefly 2013 Leave No Trace.
They get to stay an extra day and leave our little spot in the woods as
beautiful as it was before we got there. Email LNT for questions or to
sign at: LNT (at) fireflyartscollective (dot) org.
7. Placement Work Weekend
Our placement work weekend is June 8th and 9th starting Saturday afternoon and ending Sunday afternoon. Don't miss it! This weekend is not just for placement, but also for helping to create the event so bring some work gloves. You MUST sign up for Work Weekends to attend. There will be an
announcement soon to sign up for Work Weekends, so keep checking the
Announce and Blink lists for more info.
8. Participate!
Please encourage members of your camp to take
shifts in the various volunteering opportunities for Firefly such as
parking, rangers, greeters, kitchen and gate. This event happens and is
created by the people who participate in it. Everyone is a volunteer.
9. Exodus
Firefly
ends July 7th . Your camp mates, your belongings, and EVERY TRACE YOU
EVER EXISTED needs to be removed from the site on this day. Plan
accordingly. We are guests on this land, treat it as such. Please
don’t leave a mess for others to clean up. Allow DPW and LNT to do
their jobs and clear out ASAP.
10. Thanks! You're Awesome!
