Correct email address is below Hellooooo Fireflies!! We're happy to announce (belatedly) that there will be another FF Art Truck going up to Vermont this year. This is a FREE service, to get your art from city to woods. The art truck pick up at Artisan's Asylum (10 Tyler St Somerville) the evening of Monday, July 2. You'll be required to PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORT to and from the pick-up / drop-off area, so please plan accordingly. The truck will arrive at the Firefly site on Tues, July 3. You do not have to have early arrival to use the truck, your art will be waiting for you when you get to the site. Your art must be PACKAGED such that it will NOT DAMAGE OR BE DAMAGED BY other art on the truck. We'll be as careful as possible in tetrising everything nice and snug inside the truck, but things inevitably shift in transport so packaging is key. If you have packed art for transport on the burning truck, you know the drill. Another thing to keep in mind: NO FLAMMABLES OR FOOD/BEVERAGES. We don't want your stuff to endanger anyone else's. And this truck is for ART ONLY! No personal belongings or camping gear please. To request a spot on the art truck, please RESPOND to FF2012ARTTRUCK (at) fireflyartscollective (dot) org with: 1) The name of your project and a contact name & email 2) An estimate of the cubic feet to space you're requesting. Gate: Two Nights of Shifts Still Available: SIGN UP!

Hello, fine denizens of Firefly! The Gate is still seeking volunteers! This year, Firefly raised its population, yet volunteerism has not gone up proportionately (or, at all). Firefly infrastructure relies entirely on the support of its population. No one in this organization is paid, and each of us reaps the benefit of the work of the collective. If you think Firefly should raise its population cap in the future to allow more tickets, help us run Firefly smoothly this year by taking a shift. Some people have signed on for multiple shifts. If you haven't signed up for any yet, pick one. Gate, Greeters, Rangers, Kitchen, do it! Show support and help the event. The Gate is in need of volunteers for Saturday and Sunday late-nights. The wee-hour shifts are shorter (2 hours to the usual 3) and with 3 volunteers per shift, you always have company. The late night shifts are responsible for ushering in late-arrivals and checking IDs against the ticket list, ushering out early-leavers, keeping any traffic from blocking the road, and being the first smiling face for any curious neighbors or visitors. You will have a radio on which to hail the Rangers or Board at any time; you're never alone out there. *Hello, Firefly! Firefly is a mere two weeks away! What's that? A mere fortnight? Surely you jest! I jest not, kind friends, and with the big event so close we can taste it, I have some information for you regarding early arrivals and gate! -=WHO is allowed Early Arrivals=- Only ticketed FIreflies are allowed Early Arrivals. This includes every individual in the vehicle. No ticket, I steal your truck and kick you out. -=WHAT do you have to do to get on Early Arrivals=- If you would like to arrive early (ie: between noon on Tuesday, July 3rd and before the event officially opens at noon on Weds, July 4th), please email earlyarrivals(a)fireflyartscollective.org with the following information: - Full name of each ticketed Firefly (as it appears on your ticket registration) - Responsibilities for which each person (or the group as a whole) is requesting Early Arrival - Camp (if applicable) Be conservative; only request Early Arrivals for the minimum crew necessary for your project. APPLICATION FOR EARLY ARRIVALS DEADLINE: FRIDAY, JUNE 29TH. If you are confirmed: BRING YOUR ID. When you register for Early Arrivals, your name will be added to a list. That name MUST be the name that matches your ID that matches your ticket. This goes double if you have a nickname and no one seems to know your real name. No, a SparklePony GlitterHeart Rainbow Brite ID tag does not count as an ID. Government-issued, please. You will get a wristband for the event. Keep it on. -=WHEN=- Early Arrivals may arrive after noon on Tuesday, July 3rd (or, 24 hours before the event gates open). Please note that this is a request for early admittance, not a guarantee. If permitted, you will receive an email confirmation. Early Arrivals may leave and return to the site. Note that NO re-entry is permitted during Firefly. If you need to go to town, make that happen before noon on Wednesday, July 4th. If you leave during the event, you will not be allowed back in. All cars must be out of the woods by 10a on Wednesday, so the Gate can officially open at noon on Wednesday (July 4th). Absolutely no cars will be permitted into the woods after 9.30a on Wednesday. Please think ahead and work your schedule around this. You can all do math to figure out how long it will take to drive up to Firefly, drive up the road, unload, and bring your car back to the parking lot. Make it happen. No excuses. NO VEHICLES will be allowed in the Firefly event site during the event (noon Wednesday, July 4 through noon Sunday, July 8th). -=VEHICLES allowed in the event site during Early Arrivals=- Only 4WD/AWD vehicles may go into the event site. This is subject to common sense: if your RAV4 is piled high with concrete and lead, sagging under the haul, we may well tell you no, you may not drive up into the event site. This is for everyone's best interest. If you get stuck, we all have to help get your sorry vehicle out, and that is time not spent hauling 600 pounds of propane and 700 miles of tulle up the hill. Not to mention you're probably blocking a lot of people in or out. Absolutely no Priuses, no dump trucks, no mail trucks, no UHauls, no Saabs, no Beetles will be allowed into the event site and this list is not nearly exhaustive. These vehicles barely survive the parking lot. Don't ask to drive it up to the event site. Speaking of ill-suited cars: If you own a low-slung muscle car, consider leave it at home. This goes for everyone, Early Arrivals and regular arrivals. Seriously. The “parking lot” is a graded, gravel horse run. Use common sense and if you routinely bottom out while driving through Harvard Square, carpool with someone else. (PS: Our parking lot is slightly different this year. It’s still not paved, but it’s a step closer. PPS: if it feels like you parked in the same place last year you are parked in the wrong spot. This year's parking lot is further down the road than last year; we'll be there to help y'all out.) -=GATE=- Gate is still looking for volunteers! The Gate crew welcomes new Fireflies, checks IDs, gives out wristbands, and keeps traffic flowing smoothly! The wee hours shifts are still available. The Gate is staffed at all times, to help usher new folks in (or folks out), safely, as well as to be the face of Firefly to visitors or neighbors. Gate crew will have a radio with which to be in touch with Rangers and the Board; you're never alone! REMINDER: You must be signed up ahead of time to attend a Work Weekend. The first Work Weekend is THIS weekend and includes Theme Camp and Art Installation placement. Information for this Work Weekend and the other 2 Work Weekends is below, including the links to sign up for each Work Weekend. Thanks, Jen Hill Work Weekend Core Co-Leader Hello happy Fireflies!!! As many of you know, it takes a lot of work for Firefly to happen both before and during the event. Firefly is getting closer by the day and it's almost time to do the necessary tasks to prepare for the event. There are 3 Firefly Work Weekends this year. The Work Weekend Dates and links for signing up are below. Please do not arrive before 6pm on Friday night on each Work Weekend. You **must* *sign up ahead of time to attend a Work Weekend, and will need to check in upon arrival. If you are not signed up ahead of time, you will be asked to leave the site. The number of Work Weekend volunteer spots is limited, so please make sure you sign up early All work and no play isn't any fun, but please keep in mind that everyone's priority during the Work Weekends is to accomplish necessary tasks and complete required projects to make Firefly happen. Some of this year’s projects & tasks include*:* determining locations for various event structures, preliminary site mapping, clearing and marking trails, digging holes, cutting and gathering firewood, road & trail trenching, parking lot preparation, and gathering sticks for the creation of The Bug. The following information is required for signup: - Name - Email Address - Ride/Car Situation (for ride share) - Theme Camp, Art Installation, and/or Core Affiliation - Skills and/or Expertise - Tools bringing for self and/or to share - Specific projects and/or tasks you would like to work on *Work Weekend #1 - Theme Camp & Art Installation Placement and Work Weekend * *Friday June 15th - Sunday June 17th* * * In addition to Work Weekend tasks required for the infrastructure of the event, placement for Theme Camps and Art Installations will take place this weekend starting Saturday afternoon and continuing on Sunday. If you are planning an Art Installation or Theme Camp, please make sure that at least one representative from your camp can attend this Work Weekend. Once your spot is chosen, marked, and cleared through placement co-leaders and mapping, report to a Work Weekend co-leader for assignment and/or direction to Cores for tasks. During this Work Weekend, the only work done for individual camps will be Saturday evening after other tasks and Sunday if there is no need for help with general/Core tasks or after those tasks have been completed.
