Hello beloveds,
It's that time of year again, when we come together to pool our collective
funds to buy enough fresh, cold, artisanal, vegan, gluten free,
farm-to-table, single-origin, local ice cubes to fill our coolers and those
of our neighbors. Donate here to help make ice deliveries this year happen:
https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8K4aQ4qqVc
I'm looking forward to seeing your cool, refreshed, hydrated faces out
there in the woods.
Stay frosty out there,
Ice Ice Abby
P.S.
We've also got some Frosty News Updates for all you Ice Lovers out there.
Our beloved ice vendor, Mike of Mike's Ice, sold his business, so we have a
new ice vendor this year. Ice deliveries this year will be brought to us by
Lana's Ice in Royalton VT - actually by Lana's three teenage children, who
run the ice business to save for college. Lana is charging us the low-low
price of $1.25 per 5-lb bag of ice cubes, and they have a bigger truck and
can deliver up to 300 bags of ice per delivery (that's 50% more ice than
Mike was bringing us!)
FAQ:
Q: How does this work?
A: We pool our ice money before the event, and then during the event, we
pay a local ice vendor to bring fresh ice to the event every day. Come to
the upper parking lot during ice delivery times (typically daily at 10am
and 2pm, but we'll post updates on the ice shack) and grab a bag or two or
ten and carry it back to camp, or give it to someone who looks like they
need it.
Q: Do I have to donate in order to get ice?
A: Ice will be free for everyone at the event. If you didn't donate, it's a
gift from your neighbors!
Q: Should I still bring ice from home?
A: It's a good idea to pack your cooler with ice before you leave home.
We'll have an ice delivery on the first day of the event, but it's much
more effective as a cooler-cooling device if your food is already cold.
Q: What do you recommend I use my ice for?
A: We recommend that you use the ice to fill your coolers, your drink
stations, and wide-mouth water bottles. Ice is also useful for soothing
fresh injuries, making frosty blender drinks, making alcoholic beverages
more palatable, and many other uses.
Q: Will there be an ice delivery on early arrival day?
A: That's not currently in the plans. If you think we could use one,
message Abby with your ideas about how much ice will be needed and when,
and we can get it.
Q: Can you get dry ice? Blocks of ice?
A: No, they only have bags of ice cubes in VT. Dry ice and blocks you still
have to bring from home.
Q: I anticipate my camp's ice consumption will be significantly higher than
in previous years. Can you make sure there's enough ice for our needs?
A: I'm sure it can be arranged. Message Abby and we'll make sure we'll have
the ice you need for your frosty schemes.
Q: How can I help other than donating?
A: We love ideas about how to make Ice Hole better than last time. Do you
want to help build an insulated ice-holding station, or help set up the ice
station, or make better signs than we had last year? Do you want to make a
frosty playlist and play it on a boombox at the Ice Hole? Do you want to
freeze a huge block of ice in my chest freezer and drive it up so you can
chisel an ice sculpture at Firefly? Message Abby at abby.g.howell(a)gmail.com
or 512-762-2113 to become a partner in frosty innovation.

Introducing SMART Health Cards
We’re happy to introduce a way of verifying your vaccination status
before getting
to Gate! You can do this by visiting the Ticketing and Volunteering Portal
<https://tickets.fireflyartscollective.org/> and uploading your SMART
Health Card <https://smarthealth.cards/en/issuers.html> in the new
“COVID-19 Safety Requirements” section. The process should take under 5
minutes and will save time verifying your status at Gate. Find the link
directly on your Ticketing dashboard:
If you don’t upload your SMART Health Card: Please bring physical proof of
vaccination to Gate, either your original card or a photocopy. Using a copy
on your phone will complicate & slow down Gate operations, as well as
forcing you to unlock your phone and hand it over to the Security team
while you sit in your car.
Unvaccinated participants: You must bring a physical copy of a negative
COVID PCR test taken less than 72 hours prior to your arrival, as well as
enough rapid tests for daily testing. This requirement is unchanged. Again,
if you only have a copy on your phone, you will need to unlock your phone
and hand it over to the Security team while you sit in your car.

Exodus: Parking & GTFO are in need of a lot more volunteers!
Parking & GTFO volunteers have the crucially important job of managing
traffic so exodus runs smoothly and as efficiently as it possibly can. Exodus
slows down for everybody if Parking and GTFO volunteer shifts are not all
filled.
PERK: If you work an Exodus shift, you do not need to be off the land until
6 PM (or, if shifts go late, until 2 hours after you get off shift). Why
rush to leave on Monday, when instead, you can take your time and help
Exodus flow like room temperature butter?

Placement for Art and Theme Camps
Firefly Placement applications for Art and Theme Camps are now open!
If you are bringing either of these things to Firefly 2022 and wish to
reserve space for it and be visible on the Event Map, please visit
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/placement/ for
information and link to the application form.
The deadline for submitting placement applications is 11:59PM Thursday,
June 9, 2022
Placement Afternoon will take place at the event site promptly at 1PM on
Sunday, June 12, 2022
Firefly Early Arrival & GTFO Access
Are you a core volunteer or a theme camp member seeking Early Arrival (that
is, permission to arrive at the event 12 pm or later on Tuesday - the event
starts Wednesday at noon)? Then you’ll want to fill out the Early Arrival
application
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAMdx6WbJ-pUd9sndzdfeS8J_sTeYW1hj…>
!
Are you planning to drive your car into the woods during Early Arrival
(Tuesday 12 pm - 7pm, Wednesday 7 am - 11 am) and/or Exodus? Then you’ll
want to fill out the Early Arrival application
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAMdx6WbJ-pUd9sndzdfeS8J_sTeYW1hj…>
and indicate that you wish to drive your car into the woods!
Notes: The number of Early Arrival participants will be limited this year.
Everyone showing up for EA must apply and be approved; if you show up to EA
with any non-approved members in the car, the whole car will be sent away.
We will begin notifying participants of their EA acceptance beginning early
to mid June, once we get a sense of how many people are applying.
Cars going up the hill must be GTFO-approved. Cars must be AWD or 4WD and
have a ground clearance of at least EIGHT (8) inches. You must fill out the
application and be approved. Cars who do not apply, or are not approved,
will not be allowed up the hill.
Camps and participants bring awesome infrastructure and art to Firefly, and
we love seeing it!
However, please be mindful that vehicle traffic is destructive to the road,
and this damage requires a lot of volunteer effort to repair each year.
We're asking folks to plan to pack sensibly and consider carrying in / out
as much of their gear as possible so we can limit vehicle traffic.
Please also keep in mind that vehicle access during Early Arrival & Exodus
is contingent upon road conditions. In case of muddy or wet conditions,
access will be delayed or restricted until conditions improve. Folks may
need to carry in or out infrastructure and camping gear the old fashioned
way. Consider this as you make your packing lists!
Thanks for understanding! For any additional questions or help, please
contact early(a)fireflyartscollective.org (for EA) &
gtfo(a)fireflyartscollective.org + dpw(a)fireflyartscollective.org (for GTFO).

The smollest but not leastest Art Grants are now open for submissions with an increased funding limit! [ https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants… | Smol Grants ] are meant to help cover expenses associated with projects of a small (or “smol”) size or scope. They feature a greatly streamlined application process -- just fill out this [ https://forms.gle/kyL6gMBqT4ZCprocA | smol google form ] . For 2022 we've increased the max Smol grant to 149$, payable by paypal only.
While all art grants are meant to encourage new artists to dip their toes in the water, the Smol grants are super helpful for those little last minute "wouldn't it be fun" Firefly projects. There's only one month left until the event (AAAAAAAA) so get going!

Greetings Fireflies,
It’s almost time to get back to the land and begin preparing it for the
annual invasion! If you have not yet signed up to volunteer on Work
Weekends, now is your chance!
Dates are as follows:
Work Weekend #1: June 4-5
Work Weekend #2 & Placement: June 11-12
Work Weekend #3: June 18-19
Please note that since some folks will be using potentially dangerous
tools/equipment, only those who have officially signed up via this form
(and signed the included waiver) will be allowed on the property
<https://forms.gle/YbqpzK4pgoUo5EgK9> on each of the Work Weekends.
If you Need a Ride / Can Offer A Ride
We’ve created this spreadsheet where folks can post that they need or can
offer rides
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cBdUND6L2nfnQYETIe3zOhyLgGW-702kf5O…>.
Folks are responsible for removing their own entries once they have no more
available buttspace or once they have arranged for and no longer need a
ride. Ride shares will not be managed by Work Weekend organizers.
See you in the woods!

Interested in helping bring art to Firefly? Want to help choose what kind of projects are funded for the event? We've got a new round of grant applications coming in, which means we need another round of committee members!
This is call out to any of you who might be interested in helping to review the proposals for Firefly's Art Grants this year! We are looking for approx 9 folks who are interested in helping to make this aspect of Firefly successful.
*Requirements:*
* You must have attended at least 1 (one) previous Firefly in order to join and participate in the selection committee.
* You must not be applying for a 2022 Firefly Art Grant.
* You must sign the Art Grant Committee Code of Ethics.
* Commit to reading and recording your thoughts on up to 40 applications, which may take 4-6 hours of brain time.
* There are multiple blocks available; you can sign up for any number of blocks, but for each block you must attend both dates.
*The Intense Details:*
The job requires a lot of reading and talking as we typically receive over 40 applications for Creativity Grants. We will have 2 meetings in which we will make these decisions, on May 18th and May 25th, both at 7:30pm.These meetings generally run for about 2 hours, and both will take place over Zoom.
This is a commitment of about 15-20 hours; 6-8 hours of reading and cogitating and two 2-hour meetings where we hash it all out. The deadline for artist submissions is on May 15th, so you will have between then and May 18th to read the applications over and fill out a review sheet to decide how well each application met the criteria. We review the applications for Thoughtfulness, Creativity, and Feasibility (explained in detail here <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants…> and during the meetings).
This is followed by the aforementioned meetings where we compare notes and formulate follow-up questions for all applicants. We wait a week to give time for artists to get their replies back to us, then we meet again and make our final decisions.
If you would like to participate, please sign up via the Art Grants portal: https://grants.fireflyartscollective.org/voters/new
Any questions? Email us at grants(a)fireflyartscollective.org!

2022?
If you’re interested in volunteering with any of:
-
Fire Core
-
First Aid Core
-
Radio Core
-
Ranger Core
-

Officers of the Day volunteer to coordinate and lead any volunteer response
to any emergency that happens at Firefly. During their shifts, Officers of
the Day work closely with the Firefly Board Member on Call to plan and may
end up responding to a wide variety of situations! This shift is a great
way to help the Firefly community while working closely with other Firefly
organizers and gaining hands-on leadership experience in the field. Each
shift is 24 hours (1pm to 1pm) and begins and ends with attending the
Firefly-wide “noon meeting”.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please fill out the (very short!)
application here: https://forms.gle/BdXnzmXHE7two3U8A
Our ideal volunteer has prior experience in an emergency or crisis
situation and is excited to put their skills to use! They also are
available to attend a full day of training on Sunday, May 22nd in Malden,
MA.
