3. 20 Feral goats spotted hunting parking core!
Parking volunteers have gone missing due to goats ravaging the lower & upper parking lots! We need your help to keep these menacing creatures at bay and maintain order! **Warning** Jumping goats appear cute and social, but up close, they are sexual deviants known to ram without consent – keep a safe distance and report any goats on site, immediately!
Don't worry even if protecting the lands from feral goats is not your forte, we still need your help! If you enjoy life size Tetris with motor vehicles or meeting the fireflies seeking refuge from the havoc inflicted by goats in upper and lower parking, gnawing on side mirrors & eating all the grass causing mudslides and vehicles getting stuck, consider volunteering with the Parking and Shuttle Cores! Your bravery will save many fireflies from frustration of avoiding getting trapped in mud or traffic from stampedes during exodus. Parking core is essential for a smooth transition to maintain order for getting in AND out of this festival. Parking and Shuttle needs your support, volunteer today or thank a core member for their devotion to aim for a goat free burn!
Please sign up in the volunteer section at:
Parking: https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/team/205
Shuttle: https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/team/221
Or contact your Parking Core Leads, Sarina Canelake or Erik Adams: parking(a)fireflyartscollective.org with any specific questions!
4. Survival Guide Important Info for Newbies
Make sure everyone in your group reads it BEFORE packing and leaving for the event. If you wait to read it on the way there or during the event, it is too late. Check out the Survival Guide <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/survival-guide/> Here.
Email communications(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:communications@fireflyartscollective.org> with questions or comments.
Sanctuary has learned that our shelter was eaten by rats. If you would like to help us, the job is to:
Research shelter options (domes, carports, giant tents, etc)
Run your idea by the Firefly treasurer (who will approve the cost) and the Sanctuary Co-Leads
Coordinate construction of said shelter over a work weekend fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/work-weekends/
If you take this on you will be more likely to get approval for:
A) Visiting the site before a Work Weekend (to take measurements),
B) Work weekend spots, and
C) Early arrival
Email sanctuary(a)fireflyartscollective.org with your questions or interest!
Sign-ups are open for June Work Weekends
Work Weekends are upon us! Get to know your fellow Fireflies and the land before the event—learn skills and break a sweat in scenic VT to boot! This year’s WW dates:
WW1- May 31-June 02
WW2- June 07-09 [+Placement]
WW3- June 21-23
*Signups are due by the Thursday before each weekend.
The Basics — Work Weekends in June are when volunteers travel up to the event space and prepare it. This can include, but is not limited to: gathering sticks for the bug, repairing or creating new paths, and general maintenance. Volunteers arrive after 6pm on Fridays (May 31st, June 7th, and 21st) and are expected to vacate by 6pm on Sundays. Tasty lunch is provided by Work Weekend Corps(™) on Saturday with basic snacks and coffee available the rest of the weekend.
There is a lot of do in a relatively small amount of time, so it’s important that if you are going to attend work weekends you understand that the crews and corps are there to work, this is not a ‘Firefly lite’ or party event. That being said, there is a lot of fun to be had and it’s an excellent way to meet new people if you are new to the event and/or the community. We accept and encourage anyone and everyone to volunteer and will make accommodations for those with specific needs.
This year we are putting an emphasis on both Radical Inclusion and Radical Self-Reliance. You are encouraged to consider what these tenants mean to you and how best you can implement them for the betterment of yourself and the community at large. Work Weekends are an opportunity to roll your sleeves up and give some sweat to the festival, but there are endless different ways that can be accomplished. If you have ideas beyond what the webpage offers, feel free to contact Work Weekend Core to discuss.
Placement Brunch — June 9th is placement brunch which begins at 12pm. It is strongly encouraged that, if your camp is sending reps to Placement Weekend, they be ready to contribute to the infrastructure work as well.
Due to limited parking, if you will only be attending placement, YOU MUST still sign up for WW that Sunday and indicate you’ll be attending placement. Placement info: https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/placement/ <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/placement/>

Work Weekend Sign-up
1. Plan Early – Buy Your Bus Ticket Now
Buy bus tickets by logging into your profile here. <https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/site/login>
We offer refunds upon request through June 17, 2019 — two weeks before the event opens. After that date, we will unfortunately only be able to offer refunds if the buses sell out AND someone else needs your ticket.
Bus ticket purchases must be made online, and will end at the same time that event ticket sales close.
For more info email transport(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:transport@fireflyartscollective.org>
2. Early Arrival Application and Vehicle Access
Looking to arrive early for Firefly to set up art, theme camp, or volunteer for an early shift? Do you need access to the woods for a vehicle? The 2019 Early Arrival application is now live! <https://forms.gle/rHCG3EKizjrgbJs26>
Vehicle Hill Access for Early Arrival and Exodus
There is a new process this year for registering your vehicle for hill access. The GTFO Vehicle Registration information is now a section within the Early Arrival application. We did this to streamline the process and reduce the amount of forms that people need to fill out.
***Pay attention for separate confirmation emails because it’s possible to receive Early Arrival approval as an individual, but have your Pinto rejected by GTFO.***
If you recently used last year’s link for GTFO Vehicle registration, you will need to include that info again when applying for Early Arrival. Please use the Early Arrival Form for Vehicle Hill Access during Early Arrival and Exodus.
Questions? If you have concerns regarding vehicle access, email gtfo(a)fireflyartscollective.org. Otherwise, drop us a line at early(a)fireflyartscollective.org.
3. “Smol” Art Grants open until May 31st!
The major art grants are all closed, but Smol grants are still available! Smol Grants are awarded in lesser amounts than a full Creativity Grant (between $40 and $99), and are meant to help cover expenses associated with projects of a small (or “smol”) size or scope.
The application process is also more lightweight and simply involves filling out a Google form. They are particularly designed to encourage creation by new participants and participants who haven’t brought art to Firefly before, but everyone is welcome to apply!
Get all the details on the Firefly Smol Grant Page <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants…> on the website.
And apply for a Smol Grant by filling out this Form. <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iSCthnLFzsk72B_fctuycP6F0p-ZiBscafBo38VsmRY>
Questions? Email us at grants(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:grants@fireflyartscollective.org>.
4. Transport Co-Leads Wanted
Before Event—Assists with finding and training on-board bus volunteers for all bus trips, communications (emails), logistics and perks (bus locations, detours, etc.)
During Event—Meet and board busses when they arrive at the event, assist busses with turning around, answer passenger questions about the bus (schedule, perks, exodus), collects materials from on-board bus coordinators
Exodus—Checks in passengers, coordinates staging area for luggage, makes sure passengers load gear onto trucks and busses in a timely manner, makes sure busses leave on time
Email transport(a)fireflyartscollective.org if you’re interested in the above position.
5. Call for First Aid Volunteers
Firefly First Aid is seeking people to be mobile response for minor injuries and healthcare issues! If you are trained to be an EMT, paramedic, RN, NP, PA, ME, or DO, please volunteer for a licensed shift!
If you don't have any training, you can join as an unlicensed volunteer. Training sessions will be both in Boston before the event and on site.
Any questions can be sent to First Aid Core lead, lia(a)fireflyartscollective.org.
6. Updated Survival Guide
For seasoned Fireflies and Newbies alike. Check out the new and improved Survival Guide <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/survival-guide/>. Read it with ease on your mobile. What you’ll find in this year’s Survival Guide:

Pictures! Your photos from the gallery at use
And much more...
Make sure everyone in your group reads it before packing and leaving for the event. Email communications(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:communications@fireflyartscollective.org> with questions or comments.
7. Volunteer to help with the Witch Lights!
Call for volunteers: help make the Witch Lights move!
The Witch Lights have been an evolving art installation for the last four Fireflies. This year, they will be moving around the festival, appearing in a new location every night!
But I need help from the community for it to happen. Specifically, I need:
Volunteers to assist in moving the lights and managing batteries
Suggestions for when and where the Witch Lights should appear
The Witch Lights are easy to break down, move, and install, as long as there's more than one person doing it. I'm one person. I really need your help. It's easy. And fun!
Volunteer to help the Witch Lights here. <https://airtable.com/shrm5XPNLFklO5JhG>
The Witch Lights were originally intended to beckon passers by, and lead you to something magical or secret. And so, I ask you:
Do you have a thing? An art? An event? A secret?
Is there a thing you discovered, that maybe other people don't know about?
Is it a little bit out of the way?
Do you want the Witch Lights to guide people to it, one night?
Tell me your secrets!
Or, if there's a place that you just plain think the Witch Lights would be nifty, tell me that too...
Suggest a location here. <https://airtable.com/shrqCirH1LI3FJwTK>
8. Accessibility Core Information for Participants
As you might be aware Firefly is one of the most physically inaccessible burns in the country. This can limit who is able to attend the event. While we cannot make the mountain level, we can make things a bit easier for folks with any sort of long term or short term physical disability.
4 years ago Accessibility Squad was started by a determined and generous firefly with a couple carts and the goal to help as many folks who needed it as they could. This year we are excited to make our second year of Accessibility Core even better than first.
We can help you get your gear to your camp. We have a vehicle and volunteer drivers to get your things up to the site and a brute squad/haulers to get your stuff the rest of the way.
We will have volunteers available during most daylight hours during the event:
Tuesday 7/2: 11 am-8 pm
Wednesday 7/3: 8 am-8 pm
Thursday 7/4: 8 am-8 pm
Friday 7/5: 8 am-8 pm
Saturday 7/6: 8 am-8 pm
Sunday 7/7: 9 am-8 pm
There will be two points of contact with us, the gate/greeters tent and the rangers tent. A comprehensive step by step guide on how to get accessibility help will be released in a coming edition of the Glowbe closer to the event.
Important Accessibility Core Exodus Information
Accessibility's ability to help is limited by two important factors, the weather and the total number of participants that need assistance. If there is bad weather we will not be able to run the carts to assist people. This is not something within our control and everyone using this service needs to know that bad weather could greatly impact your ability to get to or leave your campsite.
If there is a high volume of people using accessibility services it could also impact our ability to assist in a timely fashion. Participants may not be able to leave when they would like to, but we will make all efforts to help in the fairest, most efficient way possible. We ask that all participants understand the limitations we are dealing with and plan accordingly.
Exodus poses significant challenges as all participants will be leaving on the same day. Because of this all participants that are taking the bus will need to be ready to leave by 9:00 am on Sunday. We may not be able to reach you for hours but it's vital that people using the bus are ready to leave first thing in the morning. We are aware this is an additional challenge but it is the only way we can effectively move people down the mountain.
Anyone not taking the bus during exodus may not be able to get assistance until the afternoon. Again, please plan accordingly.
We have not capped the number of people able to sign up for accessibility yet but a cap could be implemented in future years if we run into volume issues. Accessibility will still help in anyway we can if there are issues but we can not promise timely assistance.
Contact Chelsea and Matt O with any questions or concerns at accessibility(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:accessibility@fireflyartscollective.org>
