1. Work Weekend sign-ups are live
The 2016 Work Weekends are scheduled for every weekend in June. This is
when volunteers set up event infrastructure, terraform the land, build The
Bug, and scope out sites for theme camps and art. See the Work Weekend web
page
<https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/getting-ready/work-weekends/>
for
details, including how to sign up as a Work Weekend Volunteer.
To sign up for the fourth work "weekend", which *ends* on Saturday, June 25,
please email workweekend(a)fireflyartscollective.org directly. This short
weekend is only for volunteers working on The Bug or other art pieces that
require advance set-up. You may also come work on your theme camp if unable
to attend Early Arrival on Tuesday, June 28, especially if you are setting
up on new land that has never been cleared for camping. Advance sign-up is
still required by emailing us!
The Work Weekend Core needs one more co-leader! Email
workweekend(a)fireflyartscollective.org for a full description of what the
co-lead does.
----------
2. Art and Theme Camp Placement
Is your camp or art project getting ready for Firefly? Make sure it has
the perfect spot in the woods by filling out the Placement application
before the end of May!
In a change from previous years, marking off your spot will occur at noon
on Sunday June 12th as part of a Placement Potluck Brunch!
Read all the details and fill out the placement application on the Placement
page
<https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/getting-ready/placement/>.
----------
3. How are you getting to Firefly?!
Now that Firefly is JUST OVER A MONTH AWAY [hurray and/or
oh-shit-I-need-to-work-on-art], we at Transport and Parking cores encourage
you to start thinking about how you're getting to and from the event.
Parking is limited and is a major problem for the event. If you must drive,
please try to carpool. If you can, take the bus. EVERYONE MUST EITHER HAVE
A BUS TICKET OR BE TRAVELING IN A VEHICLE WITH A PARKING PASS. Failure to
do this will result in your having to pay $60 cash for a parking permit
when you arrive, and no one wants to make you do that.
Full details are available here:
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/getting-ready/getting-there-t…
Buy bus tickets or parking passes by logging into your ticket account and
clicking on the "ticket sales" tab:
tickets.fireflyartscollective.org.
Register a seat in your car or request a ride in someone else's car here:
http://www.rickyrides.com/firefly-arts-collective
----------
4. Early Arrival application
The Early Arrival application is now live! If you are bringing art or
building a theme camp, or if you have a disability that requires
accommodation, you may request permission for early arrival.
Early Arrival begins Tuesday June 28 at noon, and ends Wednesday June 29 at
noon, when Firefly officially begins. The application can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/
d/1XzGLPcQBc8rmyAR53ASeRuPPmNlmpIzSbiNy_hGti-Q/
Please note that requests are not handled or approved automatically: each
request is reviewed by Early Arrival core. Applications will be accepted
until *Wednesday, June 22 at 11:59pm*. Please make sure to read all of the
information on the application before applying! Questions? Drop us a line
at early(a)fireflyartscollective.org
You will also want to create an account on the new Firefly Volunteer
System, which can be found at https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/
We will be processing EA applications on a rolling basis this year; if you
apply for EA and are approved, we will update your account in the volunteer
system to reflect this status. This will allow you to sign up for Firefly
volunteer shifts during Early Arrival (and of course you want to! :) ).

5. Greeters is looking for a new co-lead!
(end of message)
(but you can do something about this, and other open Core lead positions,
at
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/join-a-core/open-leadersh…
)
----------
6. New Placement Core Leads
We are pleased to welcome our two new co-leads for Placement Core: Emilie
Heilig and Carl Gruesz.
Frank and I (Finn) wish to extend our hardy congratulations to the both of
them. Thank you Carl and Emilie for responding to our questions about the
future of Placement Core.
You are welcome to join in an impromptu coronation ceremony, perhaps at
meet n greet this next Tuesday at the CBC. Or when we next get together.

Helping to Lead
by The Firefly Official Announcement List
05 May '16
05 May '16
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/join-a-core/
Firefly is a participatory event. Not only do all of us create the “Stuff
To Do" with events, art and performances, but we volunteer to run the event
itself. Everything from managing shuttle buses, to building the website, to
clearing the trails, to greeting you when you arrive is done by volunteers.
Some positions, like the Board and Conduct Committee, are year-round. The
Festival Committee meets and works about 6 months out of the year, and the
individual core leads meet and work about 3.5 months a year. Early on in
the season it’s 1-2 hours a month, and closer to the event it might be 2-3
hours a week.
We are currently looking to expand our volunteer cores. We have about 20
cores and we’d like to see most cores have 3 co-leads. This way the
hand-off from year to year is an easier transition. Mostly people wind up
volunteering to run a core for a few years (though there’s no requirement
to stick around). Most of us enjoy it! It can be an extremely rewarding
experience to volunteer to run an event with a fun, like-minded, creative
and accepting group of people.
This week we’d like to get volunteers for our *Art **Cluster *and our
*City **Cluster*.
*Our Art Cluster could use:*
1) - Someone to interact with the art grant core and make an at-event tour
happen: an *Art Tour Coordinator.* Daytime art tour? Nighttime art tour?
You decide. Make it your own project.
2) -* Art Truck *- help with general logistics of, and driving, the art
truck.
*Our City Cluster needs a few as well:*
3) - Someone to join Mamajean with *Transportation* core. This is shuttle
bus and gear truck logistics. Most of this work is before the event.
4) - A few people to help with *Base Camp*. Formerly just the Coffee
Kitchen, *Base Camp* is looking to expand and create a larger communal
hang-out area around the Coffee Kitchen.
5) - *Gnomes* need a Co-lead! *Gnomes* help make the event run smoothly by
filling in wherever a volunteer is needed. They roam the woods and check in
on all the other cores.
6) - *Parking *is looking for a third co-lead! *Parking* checks parking
passes, gets cars in tight next to one another, and manages shuttle vans to
off-site parking. No small task on our hilly terrain.
7) - *Greeters* is looking for a third co-lead as well. *Greeters* are some
of the first people you’ll meet at the event. They answer any questions,
make sure you know where you’re going if you’re new, and give you a
welcome-home greeting if you’re returning.
Come get involved! We’d love to meet you.

4. Making Our World Brighter - Firefly Charitable Giving
You should be familiar by now with our art grant program and how it helps
to make Firefly the magical event that we all know and love, but did you
know that Firefly supports several very worthy groups and organizations to
support our mission in our greater community?
In 2016, Firefly Arts Collective has made local donations to FIGMENT Boston
and Framingham MakerSpace. We have also contributed to three groups in our
adopted home of Bethel VT: White River Valley Ambulance Service, Bethel
Area Food Shelf, and Bethel University!
For more information, see
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/news/firefly-charitable-giving-2016/.
----------
5. Art Cars at Firefly
Small art cars--think "small enough that two people can free it when it
inevitably becomes stuck in the mud"--are welcome at Firefly! To help
vehicles fit in with the general pedestrian feel of the event, some
specific Art Car Guidelines are available.
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/firefly-policies/art-car-guid…
----------
6. Deadline for ticket artwork is May 22!
Please submit your artwork to FFTicketArt(a)fireflyartscollective.org
Tickets should be 4x3" and contain the words "Firefly" and "June 29 - July
4, 2016". High quality PDF or JPEG, 600+ dpi and CMYK color preferred, if
possible.
Once again - the deadline is May 22, by the end of the day. We are planning
to get it all done early this year!
