As of today, Firefly organizers are up in the woods organizing the event
site. No more online signups or payments are available (except bus ticket
sales, which end at 6pm.) Emails with questions/concerns will be responded
to with heavy delay and possibly not answered at all until after the event.
If you have a question, it possibly can be answered by anyone in the
Firefly community: send it to FireflyBlink (
https://lists.fireflyartscollective.org/listinfo/fireflyblink) or post to
the Firefly Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/31209741538/).

Keep to the speed limit in town.

Hello Fireflies! All ticketed participants should have received the "Final
Info & Directions" email yesterday. As the event draws near, there is one
final aspect of Firefly we want to stress to you: our Safety Cores. Read
below to learn about the Rangers, Firefly First Aid, Sanctuary, and Fire
Safety cores as well as the Security at Gate.
*FIREFLY RANGERS*
If you have any questions or need any assistance during the event, reach
out to the Firefly Rangers. The Rangers are a group of volunteers that
focus on the safety of the participants of Firefly and encourage self
reliance, individual accountability, and shared responsibility among
Fireflies.
Rangers are a visible community resource, identified by their khaki-colored
clothing (often a khaki shirt with the words “Firefly Ranger” written on
it.) Rangers walk around Firefly in pairs. All Rangers carry radios and can
quickly connect and arrange for other community resources including First
Aid, Sanctuary, or Fire Safety. Feel free to flag down a Ranger if you need
anything!
You can also stop by Ranger Headquarters at any time of day or night to get
assistance or say hi! Ranger Headquarters is located at the intersection of
Mercurial and Verdant, adjacent to the open stage.
Should you need emergency assistance in the woods (anything you might call
911 for), the fastest way to get that NOT by calling 911 yourself but by
getting ahold of a Ranger. Rangers can quickly facilitate getting
emergency assistance to the event, meeting them at Gate, and bringing them
to where you are in the woods.
Rangers also serve the Firefly community as non-confrontational mediators.
Rangers can work with participants to address disputes, resolve or prevent
potential safety concerns, and assist in responding to medical, emotional,
and personal safety emergencies.
If you have any questions, feel free to email
rangers(a)fireflyartscollective.org or stop by Ranger Headquarters during the
event.

*FFFFA PSA*
Hi folks!
Here's a friendly reminder from Firefly's First Aid volunteer services!
Remember to look out for ticks, knives, sticks, rocks, fire, art,
lasers, trees, hippies, 4-wheeled polari vehicles, DPW, darkwads, the dark,
the sun, undercooked food, overcooked food, cancer, chemtrails, rain,
water, lack of water, air, lack of air, fun, lack of fun, too much fun,
alcohol, mud, hills, and slippery slopes.
Oh, and look out for your friends, too - as good friends do.
Let us not forget how terribly hazardous to your health these things could
be!
If, perchance, you find yourself in a predicament, having failed to look
out for (and having become caught in the grip of) one (or multiple!) of the
aforementioned health hazards, you will likely wish that you had planned
ahead and brought adequate first aid supplies to manage your entirely
predictable injury and/or illness.
Our advice to you:
Be prepared, and bring your own first aid supplies. Please bring your
prescribed medications as well.
About Us:
Firefly First Aid is not a medical service. We are not doctors to diagnose
you; we are not nurses to administer treatments to you.
We are volunteers who are willing to provide you with first aid assistance
if you find that you've forgotten to remember to remind yourself to pack
your now-forgotten bacitracin.
However, if SHIT GETS REAL, come find us without delay. (The fastest way to
do so is through a Ranger.)
We actually know what the fuck to do in an emergency and might be able to
keep you alive while simultaneously coordinating the call to 911 and moving
you to a pick up spot for the paramedics.
Think you or a friend needs to go to the hospital?
Come find us by running recklessly down the muddy hill at night with tears
obscuring your vision in the vague direction of the main Ranger Station
at the intersection of Mercurial and Verdant.
If we First Aid volunteers aren't sitting in wait for you to gravely injure
yourself and add some excitement to our day, the Rangers will know how to
find us.
Firefly First Aid!
And remember folks,
The 4th F is for...
...
Friendly!
-----------
SANCTUARY
*“Rangers help, First Aid treats, Sanctuary soothes.”*
*What is Sanctuary?*
Sanctuary offers our Fireflies peer counseling in the event of a
non-medically related event or emergency. Sanctuary is a safe, comfortable,
and private space for participants that need a caring listener or
low-stimulus environment. Sanctuary is about Grounding and Growing.
Participants that use Sanctuary are like lost wild dandelion seeds in the
wind. It's our job to bring those flying seeds back down to planet Earth,
ground them, and then allow them to grow again.
*Why Sanctuary?*
Each participant attends Firefly for fun. We wouldn't do it if it wasn't
fun, whatever that may mean to each of us. The participants that come to
Sanctuary are usually no longer having fun. They are no longer experiencing
joy. We help these participants to be grounded again. We engage with
participants when they need someone to talk to, need assistance with
emotional trauma, interpersonal issues, anxiety, triggering of past events,
or just overwhelmed and overstimulated by the Firefly experience.
Sanctuary volunteers help our participants walk through their difficult
time.
*Where is Sanctuary?*
Sanctuary is located at the top of the field to the right of the main
entrance to the woods on Mercurial Path.
-----------
*FIRE SAFETY*
DRY CONDITIONS - It was dry on-site the last couple weekends and the
forecast doesn't have any significant rain between now and the event. The
current fire warning level is moderate:
http://fpr.vermont.gov/forest/fires/monitoring.
It's really dry! Bring more water, be aware when lighting fires of the
conditions.
GENERATORS - If you've got a generator, please make sure to keep it at
least 10' from your pile of gas cans and anything else combustible (like
tents).
EXISTING FIRE PITS - No new fire pits are allowed. All the standard rules
apply to the existing pits: clear the area, make sure you have a FULL water
bucket and a bucket of dirt or a shovel around, and keep the fire attended
at all times, no exceptions, period. If your fire is found unattended IT
WILL BE PUT OUT.
ABOVE-GROUND FIRE PITS - All of the above for existing fire pits, plus you
need to make sure it does not leave a burn scar.
FLAME EFFECTS - All flame effects must be inspected and tagged by Fire
Safety before you can operate. Please make sure to send in your safety
plans which include operation plans, diagram that shows how the effect
works and its layout to fast(a)lists.fireflyartscollective.org. These
inspections will look primarily at placement, construction, and safety
equipment. We are going to be checking NFPA 160 compliance. Flame effects
must be attended at all times by a sober and competent operator.
BURNABLE ART - If you've got art that will be burned, and we haven't
already been in touch, please email fast(a)lists.fireflyartscollective.org and
let us know what you're working on. All artists are expected to manage
their own perimeters, including recruiting volunteers.
As always, TIKI TORCHES, PYROTECHNICS, and FIREWORKS are not allowed.
FIRE SPINNING safety meetings for Conclave will occur at Friday 3pm at
Lions and Saturday 2pm at Diode. Locations where fire spinning is allowed
are in circles at Diode, Lamp, and Lions.
You can find Fire Safety volunteers by flagging one of us down as we walk
around the event (we'll be in red shirts), or by radio through the Rangers
- either Dirt Rangers on shift, or by going to Ranger HQ.
Please email fast(a)lists.fireflyartscollective.org if you have any questions.
-----------
*GATE SECURITY*
As in previous years, Firefly has contracted outside security staff to be
stationed at Gate. They will assist Gate volunteers by verifying IDs and
ensuring everyone who gets in has a ticket. These staffers provide
security for other Vermont festivals and concerts, and are familiar with
Firefly—this will be their third year assisting us. They make a point of
treating all participants with respect.
They are here to support us and are trained to defuse any potential
situations that Firefly volunteers may not be comfortable handling. They
will only leave Gate and enter the event if specifically requested by event
organizers and will be accompanied by event organizers at that time.
They are friendly, like to help out, and enjoy staffing our event. Feel
free to say hi as you come in and greet them as you would any other
volunteer.
-----------
Have a happy, healthy, safe, joyful Firefly, and we'll see you in the woods!
-----------
Firefly starts in just a few days, so we have a lot of messages to pass
along. Prepare for the infodump!
Final information & directions to Firefly will be sent to paid
ticketholders in a separate email this weekend.
There will be another Glowbe Special Edition from the Firefly safety cores on
Monday.

----------
1. Volunteer opportunities
Less than 1 week till we hit the woods and there are still lots of
volunteer opportunities!
Firefly is volunteer run and we count on every participant to pitch in and
take a few shifts. 1-2 shifts (or about 6 hours is a great number to shoot
for). There are literally thousands of people hours that go into planning
and running the event.
THE ONLY LINK YOU NEED:
https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org
1) Create an account. Takes 30 seconds.
2) Click on the name of the core (far left side) you are interested in to
see what shifts are still available.
3) The “view schedule” button on the right will let you see who is already
signed up for what shifts.
----------
2. Waitlist cleared; tickets available!
The active waitlist has been cleared; everyone who sent in a signed release
form and logged onto the ticket site within the past two weeks has received
a ticket offer. Woo hoo! We're still getting requests for refunds,
thought. This means two things:
- If you request a ticket refund, you will only get it if someone pops up
on the waitlist wanting a ticket. Refunds will be processed in the order
they are requested, so push that button now if you know you aren't going.
- If you don't have a ticket and you want one, get your release form in NOW
and log in to make sure you're active! There are always last-minute
refunds, which means right now we expect *extra tickets available*. But we
can't issue a ticket offer without your signed release form in hand.
Ticket sales will be closing down on Monday night. See you in the woods!
----------
3. Coffee Hut/Base Camp update and info
*Hello Firefliers!*
*The Coffee Hut/Base Camp has moved to the apple grove above the bug. *
- *Coffee Kitchen* - We will be pouring our usual strong brew almost all
day. Come and get caffeinated! There will also be hot water for tea and hot
chocolate (yes we have marshmallows). We will also have a three burner
stove and a wash station for those who want to cook. We will not have any
cooking implements (pots or pans) - these you will have to bring and take
with you when you are finished. We have no trash or garbage receptacles
either. LNT.
- *No Borders Free Bookstore *Come and peruse a selection of chapbooks
to read and share when you need a break from Firefly.
- *Lost and Found* - Please bring all clothing, gear etc. here. Any
valuables (keys, phones, meds, glasses etc.) please bring to Ranger HQ.
- *Gnomes* - in case you forgot to sign up for a volunteer shift at the
Greeters when you came in - you can see what cores still needs help at the
Gnome hut!
- *Intentions Book* - If you didn’t send in an intention, you can still
add one to the book that will burn in the bug on Saturday.
- *Message Board *- leave a note for a friend or an event!

4. ✮ Volunteer opportunity on-site Tuesday & Wednesday: posting signs with
Propaganda Core! ✮
Help make it easy for people to find their way around Firefly! Propaganda
Core will be meeting at Diode at 4 pm Tuesday during early arrival and at
the same time and place Wednesday to post official Firefly signs around the
event site. No need to bring anything or do anything beforehand - just come
join us at Diode and grab as many signs as you're comfortable posting!
----------
5. Weather awareness
A heads up concerning how dry it is: Be vigilant if you have fires or are
spinning. The stream is low and may not be a good refrigerator. Bring extra
water for cooking and drinking.
----------
6. Volunteer for DPW shifts!
The Department of Public Works still has volunteer opportunity available, on
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Monday. Sign up here and help us move all the
things: https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/
Thanks!

7. Pre-Bug-Burn Circus Show Call for Performers and Musicians
As in the past N years, I will be bringing my aerial rig to the event and
it will be set up in the usual place in the field.
The annual firefly pre-bug-burn circus show will take place as long as there
are enough performers to make it happen. That's where you come in -
If you would like to be part of the magic, either PM me or send mail to "
frobzwiththingz+bugcircus(a)gmail.com".
There will be a fabric and a 36" double-point lyra coming up with the
rig, other
aerial apparatus can be rigged if you bring it.
Get Your Circus On! You know you want to!
----------
8. Temple Crew requests helping hands
The Temple Crew is looking for a few good Fireflies to help us set the 20
foot tall Temple of Arbitrary on fire on Sunday evening.
We'll need people on Sunday afternoon to help load the temple up with
cordwood to prep for the burn, as well as people to maintain the burn
perimeter during the burn itself.
If you want to be part of the burn perimeter, please meet down by the
Temple at 7:30 on Sunday, wear **non-synthetic* *clothing, closed toed
shoes, and have a light source. There will brief perimeter training at that
time, so you'll learn exactly what you need to do.
Please sign up here if you can help, or just show up (especially
Sunday afternoon
for setup) if you feel moved to help at that time - many hands make light
work!

The Temple at Firefly
Objects in the Temple are deliberately placed by you and other participants
as memorials, and as symbols of things and qualities that people wish to
take into or dismiss from their lives. The Temple burns in silence
Sunday evening,
releasing our messages, our dreams, our hardships, and more. Please honor
the personal stories these objects carry by limiting your interactions with
them to looking but not touching, using, or removing them unless invited.

1. the Event Guide / WhatWhereWhen is here!
For this year’s go-round of woodland misadventures, Firefly has decide to
outsource the production of their Event Guide (aka WhatWhereWhen) to the
cheerfully lazy folks of Cabana Hammock.
We promise to provide you with an event guide that lives up to the
standards of efficiency, clarity, and transparency that Fireflies have come
to expect. We’re putting the “What?” back in WhatWhereWhen!
How does it work?
This year’s version of the guide is essentially a big shared Google
Calendar. To add an event to the calendar, fill out this form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/16Qogfklf45a_M3494EneV_DYyS1SmEUhs9uouxhBFk…
A few minutes after you submit, your event will be automagically added to
the calendar, found here:
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/whatwherewhen/
There’s also a web-friendly version, using the calendar data feed and some
custom styling:
http://cabanahammock.com/whatwherewhen/
Bonus Round for Code Wizards - make your own calendar display
Do you know how to do magical display things with Google Calendar? Make
your own customized event listing with our data feed (Calendar ID:
l7sve162251li59l4nkdcs9bk4(a)group.calendar.google.com)
Having Issues?
Reach out to our savvy community of Fireflies via the Blink list or the FB
group - odds are someone will be able to offer friendly advice! If you’re
still stuck, send an email to our overworked support staff of one at
cabanahammock(a)gmail.com, and we’ll reply with a list of inducements and
bribes for your consideration.
----------
2. Getting help at Firefly
If your camp has a Murs radio you can get a hold of Rangers, First Aid,
Sanctuary, or Fire Safety at any time on Channel 1. Listen to see if there
is anyone else talking then, press the push to talk button, ask for Khaki
(it’s helpful to say this twice), and say who you are & where you are. Once
Khaki has confirmed a connection you can go ahead and ask for what you
need.
We ask for any camp communications that you use a Channel other than 1, so
that the channel can stay clear for emergency use.
Any questions, feel free to email rangers(a)fireflyartscollective.com or stop
by Ranger HQ during the event.
----------
3. Take the bus to Firefly (and get some perks)
Parking is at a premium at Firefly, and it's a major problem for the event.
Help do your part and ride the bus from Boston! You will be able to
buy bus tickets
through the same web portal as your event ticket once you get a ticket offer
.
Buses to Firefly run on three days (Wednesday June 29, Thursday June 30,
and Friday July 1) and will each make three pickups in the Boston area
(Central Sq Cambridge, Union Sq Somerville, and Sullivan Sq) Return buses will
all leave on Monday, July 4.
Passengers will be able to bring about three pieces of luggage plus a day
bag. A freight truck will be available on Wednesday and Sunday to carry
some luggage that does not fit on the bus, and additional freight shares on
the truck will be available to bus passengers for a moderate fee. Upon
arrival, volunteers will help you carry your labeled gear (and groceries)
to designated drop points further up the hill, another benefit of taking
the bus. Additionally, the buses will stop at a grocery store for last
minute supplies.
Bus tickets will cost $45 round trip or $30 one-way. You can buy through
the same portal as your event ticket.
Have questions? Please email MamaJean at transport(a)fireflyartscollective.org
----------
4. Lead an Art Tour at Firefly
Learn about this year's art, and share your knowledge with others!
Expect a bit of reading beforehand, and a few hours of wandering around,
but no other experience or qualifications needed.
Email arttours(a)fireflyartscollective.org with interest.
----------
5. Parking still needs 105 volunteers!
Parking volunteer help is especially needed during early arrival and for
exodus which is in full force on Monday of the event. You can sign up for
shifts here: https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/
Questions, let us know at parking(a)fireflyartscollective.org.
----------
6. Open Stage signups coming soon
We are very late, mea culpa, in gathering event requests for the open
stage. The last few years the stage has been under-utilized....we need your

5. In Need of Parking Volunteers
There are still plenty of parking shifts open! Hangout with all the
Fireflies in the parking areas and help vehicles move around the event
site. You can sign up for shifts here:
https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/
Parking help is needed throughout the entire event including the last day
of the event when there are vehicles moving around both parking lots and on
approved trails in the woods. With more attendees this year it’s even more
important that we park as efficiently as we can so we all have a place to
park and can also easily exit the event….help your fellow Fireflies out!
Questions, let us know at parking(a)fireflyartscollective.org.

9. Firefly's Communication Skills
We're glad you're reading this newsletter (and our website!) so that you're
fully prepared for Firefly, but do you find yourself saying "I wish this
newsletter really caught my eye, so I wouldn't miss all those critical
details about how to have a great time?" or "I just don't know how to
volunteer and make Firefly even more awesome, but I'm a great communicator?"
If so, you're in luck!
While we have all 2700 (!) of your attention.... one of our big projects
for the year is kick-starting our Communications Committee to keep getting
the word out to all our Fireflies about the upcoming festival and our
year-round events! If you write English good, make things pretty, organize
stuff, or have other skills you think are relevant, we'd be thrilled to
have you help out.
You can learn more about the responsibilities of the Communications
Committee here:
https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/firefly-arts-collective/committees/co…
If you're interested in helping out, please mail us at
webteam(a)fireflyartscollective.org -- we'd love to have a kick-off at the
event so we can have a running start into the rest of 2016.

10. Conduct Committee Hiatus
The Firefly Arts Collective Conduct Committee will be on Hiatus from Wed,
June 15th until Mon, July 18th, 2016. After June 15th the Firefly Incident
Report Form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rzyHM680TyT13j6WwMZnnKXbsKQQYesRUkJsD9GscZ…>
can still be used to make reports, but those reports will not be
investigated until after July 18th, 2016.
While on site during the Firefly 2016 festival please bring any reports,
concerns, or complaints to the Rangers or other Safety volunteers, or ask a
Ranger to connect you to a Board Member if it is an emergency. Ranger HQ
will have printed copies of the Firefly Incident Report Form available
should you wish to put down your thoughts while they are fresh; they will
be collected by the Conduct Committee post-event.
For concerns and emergencies, please email the Firefly Arts Collective
Board of Directors: board(a)fireflyartscollective.org

3. Special Announcement from Firefly First Aid!
Are you a theme camp lead? Core lead? Do you feel the unrelenting pull of
**Responsibility For Others**?
If so, help us at Firefly First Aid help you!
Nothing slows down a workforce like illness and injury. (I mean, a
Kalashnikov might... and dancing hippies wearing little more than a string
of blinky lights might, too... but let's all be honest with ourselves:
there's nothing you can do to stop those.)
So what CAN you do, you ask?
Keep your team safe from illness and injury by:
-enforcin... err, "encouraging" hydration!
-monitoring your team members' energy levels! Particularly during days of
heavy lifting!
-monitoring your team members' irritation and attitude problems!
Motherfuckers acting like assholes is a likely sign of fatigue!
-allow team members their Minimum Required Relaxation Ration (MRRR) at
their request!*
-facilitate communication from your team to you about any issues they would
like to discuss, potentially including relevant medical history, allergies,
delusions of grandeur, etc...
*MRRR requests may be made by submitting form FF1267418-MRRRa to the
"volunteer's" direct supervisor and/or lead. These forms can be obtained
through your event's volunteer coordinator, Steve Kosinski! Please contact
him directly, and follow up in person if he does not respond to your emails
and/or phone calls. Here's his phone number: *605-475-6963 <605-475-6963>*
Wishing you an illness-and-injury-free Firefly!

5. DPW sez: bring your shovel and bucket to the Work Weekend!
This ain't no beach party! Are you coming to any of the Work Weekends? Then
pack your "big kid" shovel and a trusty 5-gallon bucket, because instead of
building sand castles we need to build a walkway through the marsh. We need
people who can operate shovels, and carry buckets, and who can supply
shovels and buckets. Also we always appreciate more help getting other shit
done, and there is plenty of other shit to do.
If you haven't been involved in a project where a thousand of your closest
friends really appreciate the hard work you put in making their trip up the
hill easier and keeping their feet dry, give it a try.

6. How are you getting to Firefly?!
Parking is limited and is a major problem for the event. If you must drive,
please try to carpool. If you can, take the bus. EVERYONE MUST EITHER HAVE
A BUS TICKET OR BE TRAVELING IN A VEHICLE WITH A PARKING PASS. Failure to
do this will result in your having to pay $60 cash for a parking permit
when you arrive, and no one wants to make you do that.
Full details are available here:
