It’s not too difficult especially with a lot of helpers! 6) Hydraulic Highway closed; Hawks think of nothing but murder all day Most of Hydraulic Highway will be closed to all traffic for the event. (The bathing pool is still accessible from the top of Hydraulic at Porklandia/PBJ.) The road closure is protecting an active hawks’ nest with nestlings. Any human appearing in the hawk’s range is dangerous --not only because the hawk may attack you-- but also it could endanger the young hawks if they are disturbed, leave the nest too early, or are not cared for by the distracted mother. Better for humans and hawks to stay away from each other. The land itself is also unsafe because due to the nest, foresters were unable to clear hazardous trees. Observe the posted cordon and help others stay out. 7) Fire Conclave safety meetings Dates and times have been set for Fire Spinning Safety Meetings, which are required to spin in conclave. The area has been cordoned off - both to protect the hawk and its fledglings, AND to prevent participants from being attacked by the bird. Hawks are powerful raptors; they can and do attack, and this one has been screeching warning threats to anyone who approaches. Children, drunkards, or service animals could earn a new injury (or nickname) if they wander into the Cabana-Raptor zone. Birders, bring your binoculars! We could use some species identification and info on how far along the fledglings are. A nest viewing station or wildlife info project would be most welcome outside the cordon (tripod and scope? binoculars? duck blind?) ...this writer has no such expertise, but feel free to try us at info(a)fireflyartscollective.org if you seek coordination for your project, or to stump us with bird logistics questions. 3) Accessibility Squad needs YOU Hey Fireflies! Did you know that there is a group at Firefly dedicated to helping people with disabilities and injuries get their stuff where it needs to go? That group is accessibility squad! Want to help Accessibility at Firefly? * Volunteer for a shift hauling at Firefly (same account as for ticketing): https://volunteer.fireflyartscollective.org/team/47 * Pass around the volunteer link above to your friends! 4) Fire Circles and Conclave Requirements All fire spinning circle areas must be approved *before* the event. If your camp is interested in hosting a designated spinning zone, please contact Fire Core: fast(a)fireflyartscollective.org as soon as possible with details on your camp and requested space to use for spinning. This does not necessarily mean your request will be approved. We will inspect the location prior to the event to ensure it meets our safety standards. If you wish to spin in Conclave, you *must* attend one of two safety meetings during the event prior to the bug burn. During these meetings we will cover basic safety procedures as well as specific information regarding Conclave at Firefly. Work Weekend #2

Greetings Fireflies, I've returned from the north, and I have such sites to show you! There is a lot to digest in this email so I'll give you a quick TL:DR. 1. Work Weekend #2 and Placement are currently over capacity and sign-up is closed. If your camp needs representation for placement, email me at workweekend(a)fireflyartscollective.org 2. Because of the heavy winter and for everyone's safety, please no theme camp structure setup without approval from DPW or WW onsite; even if your camp has done so before. 3. Placement brunch will happen as planned; if you're only coming for placement please only send 1 representative per camp. 4. There is an active hawk's nest in Cabana Hammock. The area is cordoned off and it should be avoided. Long Form: As stated above, the winter and spring were particularly rough with our beloved event grounds this year. Many trees are down, others still need to come down, roads need to be repaired and this past weekend was hindered by the bridge needing to be rebuilt. DPW has already worked miracles getting the bridge finished and a lot of work done on the lumber, but tons more still needs to happen. Because of the predicted rain and the number of people, we've closed sign-ups for WW #2. Please do not show up without having signed up. If your camp needs representation for placement and you waited until the last minute to sign up, email me directly at workweekend@fireflyartscollect ive.org This year we have a hawk guest living in the tree-less ruins of what was once known as Cabana Hammock. An action plan is still being formed, but as of right now the area is roped off and should be avoided. Not only do we want to protect the nesting raptor, but new parents tend to be a bit touchy when hippies go wondering around under their kids. The best place to view the majestic bird of prey is from the Steam Bath area, where she can be seen landing in the distance. In years previous camps have been given some leeway to fly tarps and assemble difficult infrastructure like domes during the work weekends. Unfortunately this year that is complicated by how many trees are down and still need to come down and then cleaned up. Please consider alternative plans if your camp was going to put up infrastructure this weekend. If there are no other options, clear whatever work you are doing with DPW or WW lead first to make sure you won't be in DPW's way. Be aware that any infrastructure put up is the sole responsibility of the person putting it up, and things may need to come back down so that DPW can do it's work. Driving Reminder for Work Weekends, and for Firefly

Good day! Some quick reminders if you are driving: TLDR: 1. Do not drive to upper parking 2. Go slow! 5mph max! Longer version: You'll receive instructions for where to go, the address, which driveways to go into, etc. Please follow those instructions carefully. 1. Nobody should be driving up the second driveway that leads to the upper parking lot when they arrive. During work weekends, this area is *off limits*, we do not rent it out, and there are horses being trained in the area. If enough people drive up this road during work weekends, we could lose access to half of the land for Firefly. During the event, you must first enter the lower parking lot. So in essence, unless and until instructed to do so by a volunteer at the gate, DO NOT drive up to the upper parking lot. 2. The speed limit on the property is *5mph* no matter where you are or what you are driving. Speeds in excess of this raise dust, kick gravel off the road and scare wildlife and hippies alike. FireFly Sanctuary Training - Update!

Hello Fireflies! Such a short time until we will all be in the woods! We're so grateful to get to work with so many volunteers, returning and new to Sanctuary. We've updated our training materials, with our next session hosted by the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center.
