Over the years, the Firefly Arts Collective has been proud to provide grant support to Firefly artists to enable them to express and fulfill their varied creative visions. These grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Vermont over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. We are now accepting applications for our final grant category, Smol Grants! These grants are available between $40 and $149, and are meant to help cover expenses associated with projects of a small (or “smol”) size or scope. We love smol projects! Small projects fill the woods with art and give an opportunity to people who don’t have the time or resources to commit to something bigger. They are particularly designed to encourage creation by new participants and participants who haven’t brought art to Firefly before, but everyone is welcome to apply! These grants are evaluated on a rolling basis, from now until June 13th, but please note that our budget is not unlimited, and if we run out of money, we will have to close submissions. Dear Fireflies, Earlier this winter we sent out our periodic open call for interest in joining the Board of Directors of Firefly Arts Collective. We received a number of enthusiastic responses, asked for and received thoughtful feedback from the Firefly Planning team, and invited several participants to meet with the current board and participate in 2025 event organization to better understand how we operate. We would now like to solicit community feedback on the current round of candidates under consideration for joining the Firefly Board. (We also always welcome feedback on current board members, to help keep us accountable to our community.) For the participants listed below, please consider the following thoughts as you write us: 1. We’re excited to announce that Firefly will have event space at Somerville Open Studios (SOS) this year on May 3rd & 4th, at the SomerNova Dojo, 12PM-6PM. There will be Firefly art & music & snacks! Firefly Somerville Open Studios (SOS) Saturday + Sunday, May 3-4, 2025, from 12-6 pm Location: SomerNova Dojo, 15 Properzi Way, Somerville, MA 02143 *!! Grant Submissions Are Now Open for Burner Exchange and Legacy Grants

These grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Vermont over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. We are now accepting applications for Burner Exchange Grants and Legacy Grants. These grant categories are for art that ALREADY exists, and needs help to get to Firefly. Burner Exchange Grants Burner Exchange Grants are intended to fund projects that have already appeared at non-Firefly burns, and need minor repairs/improvements or funding for transportation. They are available for any funding level between $1 and $2,000. In the past, fuel was ineligible for a grant because it was considered a general-use item. This year, we’re altering the policy so that funding for fuel can now be included in a budget, provided that it is necessary for the piece to work (such as gas for fire art), rather than for transportation or as a general expense for the artist’s camp. Call for Coffee Lead

Want to be beloved at Firefly? Help us all get our coffee fix! We’re looking for a lead volunteer for Coffee Core. Responsibilities include: - Ordering and picking up supplies, and bringing them to Firefly - Coordinating with DPW, Early Arrival, and volunteers to do Coffee Station setup and breakdown - Checking in on each shift via radio that volunteers arrived and understand their duties, and filling in/getting help from Gnomes if not - Monitoring coffee supplies to make sure there's enough, including leaving the event a few times to get fresh milk Just fill out our Interest Form <https://forms.gle/TDApLaFJKskeCzWd8>, and we’ll get back to you if it’s a good fit! Early Submissions for Legacy Grants Are Now Open! Art Grant Core is trying something new this year! In order to support artists whose existing art needs significant work in order to return to the event, we are accepting submissions for an early round of Legacy Grants. Our hope is that this will give artists more time to prepare for the event, should they need more time than the normal Legacy Grant timeline would provide. There will also be a second round of Legacy Grant submissions which will be announced later! We are now accepting applications for the second round of our primary grant category, the Creativity Grant! This grant is intended for all your ideas for new art - everything from traditional art like sculpture, to immersive spaces, to silly little games. This year we are increasing the cap on Creativity Grants, meaning that they are now available in tiers from $150 all the way up to $2,000. Now Seeking Reviewers for Art Grants!

Interested in helping bring art to Firefly? Want to help choose what kind of projects are funded for the event? We've got a new round of grant applications coming in, which means we need another round of committee members! This is call out to any of you who might be interested in helping to review the proposals for Firefly's Art Grants this year! For each grant, we are looking for approx 12 folks who are interested in helping to make this aspect of Firefly successful. Requirements: - You must have attended at least 1 (one) previous Firefly in order to join and participate in the selection committee. - You must not be applying for a 2025 Firefly Art Grant in the same category to which you’re applying to be a committee member. - You must sign the Art Grant Committee Code of Ethics. - Commit to reading and recording your thoughts on up to 20 applications, which may take 4-6 hours of brain time. - There are multiple blocks available; you can sign up for any number of blocks, but for each block you must attend both dates. Available Blocks: Temple Grant Meetings: - Thursday, Feb 13 at 7:30 PM - Thursday, Feb 20 at 7:30 PM Creativity (Early Application): - Thursday, Mar 6 at 7:30 PM - Thursday, Mar 13 at 7:30 PM Creativity (Second Round): - Thursday, Apr 10 at 7:30 PM - Thursday, Apr 17 at 7:30 PM Burner Exchange, Legacy: - Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 PM - Thursday, May 8 at 7:30 PM The Intense Details: The job requires a lot of reading and talking as we typically receive a number of applications for each grant. We will have 2 meetings in which we will make these decisions. These meetings generally run for about 2 hours, and will take place over Zoom. This is a commitment of about 8-12 hours; 6-8 hours of reading and cogitating and two 2-hour meetings where we hash it all out. You will have a few days between the deadline for submissions and the first meeting in order to read the applications over and fill out a review sheet to decide how well each application met the criteria. We review the applications for Thoughtfulness, Creativity, and Feasibility (explained in detail here <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/art-at-firefly/art-grants/> [ https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/art-at-firefly/art-grants/] and during the meetings). This is followed by the aforementioned meetings where we compare notes and formulate follow-up questions for all applicants. We wait a week to give time for artists to get their replies back to us, then we meet again and make our final decisions.
