Heyyyyy Fireflies!! There is less than *one week left* to submit entries for the Firefly 2020 Temple and Moonshot Grants! Let's look at the tally so far... Current Temple Submissions: 0 Current Moonshot Submissions: 0 If you've ever thought about creating a Temple for Firefly, now is the time! Remember, if no one sends us a temple proposal we'll have to… do… something. It wouldn't be great! Please apply! *We are extending the deadline from Friday 1/31 until Sunday 2/2 *in order to give folks a little bit more time to polish off those submissions. Seeking Grant Reviewers for Fire Art

Hi all – We need your help! Are you an experienced fire artist? Do you care about not burning the woods down? If yes, we need your help to bring fire art to Firefly! YOUR ROLE You will be responsible for reviewing art grants that include fire. You will represent Safety and determine whether a design and burn plan are sufficient and safe. You will provide feedback to artists on the safety of their plans and provide guidance to the Art Grant team about what we should fund. As Art Cluster Lead Dennis Zografos put it, "Art Grants fund awesome, potentially dangerous stuff and Safety tells us where we should draw the line". KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Right now, we are looking for someone to review art grants. If you're interested in taking a leadership role in onsite inspections etc. please reach out, but this particular task is pretty constrained. There are several rounds of art grants (last submission date is in late March). You would be responsible for reviewing some subset of these grants on behalf of Safety. HOW DO I PARTICIPATE? Firefly 2020 Art Grants: Temple & Moonshot Submissions Begin TODAY!

The Firefly 2020 Art Grants season has officially begun! Following last year's successful pilot, we are again launching Temple and Moonshot grant submissions in December (now!) to give artists maximum time to prepare their proposals and work on their projects. The following grants are accepting submissions starting *today*: *Temple Grant: up to $2000* The Temple Grant supports the creation of the Temple at Firefly Arts Festival each year. The Temple aims to satisfy both civic and spiritual needs by creating a revered gathering space at Firefly. While the Temple should be spiritual in a general sense (and true to the spirit of the event), it is not intended to be a religious symbol, and overtly religious tones should be avoided. The Temple is placed in the field, and provides a space for Fireflies to seek quiet contemplation and introspection at the event. It is of the utmost importance that the Temple defines a physical (and emotional) space; that said, it does not have to be a traditional shelter or building. It is traditional for the Temple to serve as a place for participants to leave offerings, and the structure will be burned on the final evening of the event. A single Temple Grant is awarded for up to $2000. Submissions Due: *01/31/2020* *Moonshot Grant: up to $5000* Have you had an idea that seems like it's just too much? Don't save your ambitions for the desert alone! Artists who have grand ambitions for Firefly art are welcome to propose their ideas for a large-scale Moonshot Grant. Soliciting Feedback on the Firefly Arts Collective Directors and Candidates

Dear Fireflies, In April, we sent out an open call for interest in joining the Board of Directors of Firefly Arts Collective. We received a number of enthusiastic responses, and invited five participants to meet with the current board to better understand how we operate. We have other interested candidates still to follow up with, and this is a process that we intend to repeat in the future as we encounter a normal progression of participation in our organization. We would now like to solicit community feedback on the current round of candidates under consideration for joining the Firefly Board. We also welcome feedback on current board members, to help keep us accountable to our community. For the participants listed below, please consider the following thoughts as you write us: 1) Do you feel that the candidate is well-suited for participating on the Board of Directors, based on your experience and our bylaws (http://fireflyartscollective.org/about-fac/firefly-bylaws/)? 2) What are some qualities in the candidate that would assure success as a member of the Firefly Board? 3) If you have worked with the candidate on a project before, what was that experience like? 4) Is there anything else you would like to share about the candidate? Our Board can be between 7 and 21 members, so any and all of the candidates could join our board. There's no need to rank candidates in your feedback, just tell us what you think individually. When considering your feedback, keep in mind that beyond the yearly camping festival, we are working to expand the year-round activities of Firefly Arts Collective. Firefly continues to collaborate with Somerville Open Studios and Figment Boston to bring more community art to our cities, and we are working to have a year-round gallery space available for displays and classes. We seek members who are excited not just in helping coordinate our festival, but who also have the time and energy to expand and strengthen our regional community.
