Hello Fireflies! Welcome to the start of Firefly 2019! TLDR Summary: At registration for the ticket lottery, you will be asked to commit to how much you are willing to pay for a ticket. There are no changes to the lottery system. If you get a ticket, you’ll be asked to pay what you said you would. For Firefly to break even in 2019, the average ticket buyer would have to pay $95. We hope that some people pay more than the recommended average contribution, to cover the costs of some people paying less. This is an experiment: if it looks like Firefly won’t be able to meet its financial obligations as a result, the Board may decide to set a flat ticket price, as in past years. In 2018, Firefly introduced Financial Assistance for ticketing, which meant that Fireflies could write in to say that they could only pay a portion of the cost of a ticket, and a bunch of other Fireflies donated more than the cost of their ticket to help cover the difference. The community stepped up pitched in more than enough to cover the costs of every Firefly requesting financial assistance. This year, we want to expand this pricing system…to everyone. That lets you, and all the other Fireflies, pay what you are willing and able to make Firefly happen. So what’s the recommended ticket contribution? Based on our budget, if we changed nothing else, the ticket price would be $95/person. For some of you, this is more than your finances can handle; for others, it’s remarkably little for an experience as important to you as Firefly. So, this year we’re going to let you decide what you can pay. We ended 2018 in the red, but only barely. We expect 2019 expenses to be slightly higher–for instance, we’re adding 24-hour first aid/medical. For the last several years, we’ve kept ticket prices constant by adding about 10% more tickets…this year, we will not be increasing size of Firefly. Parking capacity and complexity is the largest structural constraint on event growth. Of course, you can read all about tickets on our website! <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/tickets/> The process of getting your Firefly ticket will change very little. There’s a FAQ describing in detail how things work. <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/getting-ready/tickets/ticket-info/> When you register for your ticket you’ll be asked what making Firefly happen is worth to you. We’ll have a lottery and a waitlist, just like past years. When your name gets to the top of the list, you’ll receive a ticket offer and pay the amount you decided on at registration. This is an experiment: if it looks like Firefly won’t be able to meet its financial obligations as a result, the Board may decide to choose a flat ticket price, as in past years. Other pricing will remain the same, including bus ticket prices (which covered around half the cost of the buses in 2018). How much you’re able to pay for your ticket does not affect the lottery. We hope this goes without saying, but to be totally clear: when you register for the lottery, and indicate how much you’re willing to pay for a ticket, that price has no bearing on your chance of getting a ticket. What happens if the new pricing system raises too much money? If Firefly has a revenue surplus, that money will roll over towards the next year’s budget and will reduce the recommended average ticket contribution next year. In 2018, the Financial Assistance system raised a bit more money than was needed. Because donors intended that money to go towards people requesting financial assistance, it won’t be used this year–we’ll reserve it until next year, in case we go back to a Financial Assistance model of ticketing. Registration opens this week! Ticket registration for Firefly 2019 will be open from Tuesday 16 April to Monday 29 April, and the Great Ticket Lottery will occur on 1 May. Able to pick up the rental on Sunday 6/30 and park it at provided location Drive it from Boston area to the event on Tuesday, 7/2 Drive from the event on Sunday 7/7 and back to the Boston area 7/7 Return the truck to the rental office Freight Lead for Bus Gear Truck: Requires attending Placement Work Weekend and Handling freight shares and payment. Find volunteers to help load and unload the gear truck and assist Driver with logistics Secure parking locations for the gear truck pre, during, and after the event Coordinate load in and load out with bus passengers and make sure they label all of their gear Make sure the truck leaves on time to and from the event Make sure: luggage dump areas get put on the event map and secure those locations with Placement Core; tarps are put down at the luggage dumps during early Arrival; work with signage core for luggage dump signs Handles lost and found for items left on the truck Transport Event Co-Lead Before Event Assist with finding and training on-board bus volunteers for all bus trips Assist with communications (email and facebook) Assist with logistics and perks (bus locations, detours, etc.) During Event Meet and board busses when they arrive at the event Assist busses with turning around Able to answer passenger questions about the bus (schedule, perks, exodus) Collect materials from on-board bus coordinators Exodus Check-in passengers Coordinate staging area for luggage Make sure passengers load gear onto trucks and busses in a timely manner Make sure busses leave on time Email transport(a)fireflyartscollective.org <mailto:transport@fireflyartscollective.org> if you’re interested in any of the above positions. I'm looking for accessible locations that can fit around 20 people. I have some options but am hoping to find the most accessible space possible. Question 2. Do you know of a training date that will be in conflict with another important event/date? With this many people it will be impossible to find the perfect dates, but I at least know to avoid Porchfest weekend and other holidays like Memorial Day. Do you know of any other dates to avoid? Question 3 and separate form. Do you have opinions or ideas for Sanctuary? I would love to hear them! Hello, Fireflies! Firefly Art Grant season is rolling right along! While the Early Application deadline has passed for Creativity Grants, you can still apply during the second round of consideration until Sunday night, March 17. In addition, two more art grants are open for submissions: Burner Exchange Grants (BEX Grants) <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants…> Legacy Grants <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants…>The BEX Grants are for art that has already appeared either at a regional burn event or Burning Man and showcases the local flavor of its origin. Grant money is intended to be applied to minor maintenance / improvements and shipping costs to Vermont. BEX Grants are awarded for up to $1000. The Legacy Grants are provided to support existing projects which have been to Firefly in the past. Creativity Grant First Round Submissions Now Due Sunday Night!

Let us help fund your art! The first round of Firefly Creativity Art Grants <https://www.fireflyartscollective.org/participate/art-at-firefly/art-grants…> was going to be due this Friday Feb. 15, but we thought you might want one more weekend to submit, so now the deadline is Sunday night (2/17) at midnight! This is your chance to get your submission reviewed first and possibly funded much earlier than usual. With a small number of submissions so far, your proposal will get a lot more attention. When the second round happens and we have 40 applications to wade through, it will be much harder to stand out. Even if you don’t get accepted now, you can easily reapply for the Second Round. You have literally nothing to lose by applying early!
