Parking during Exodus Really Needs Help We ONLY have four volunteers so far for Parking during Exodus (we need 18 more). There's always a lot of complaints about how hard leaving the event is, and not having Parking volunteers impacts that. Being short volunteers also overwhelms and over works the volunteers that do step up during Exodus and causes burn out. PERK: If you work an Exodus shift, you do not need to be off the land until 6 PM or, if shifts go late, 2 hours AFTER you get off your shift. In order to save paper, I recommend clicking “hide descriptions” at the top, then clicking on the events you want to attend to expand their descriptions. Print double sided if you can! Off Site Parking: A Dream Come True .+:｡(ﾉ･ω･)ﾉ Firefly has grown from a smol lil forest romp to the truly amazing and growing community we have today. How do we do it when our land space is limited? The answer is that Fireflies are truly awesome people who take a little extra time to park off site and ensure our event can continue to exist at its current size. This year, offsite parkers have more to look forward to than an awesome shuttle ride and that great feeling you get from participating in the community: one free trash bag AND one free recycling bag! Volunteers Needed for On-Call Logistical Sanctuary Roles Firefly is the amazing event it is because of the innumerable ways people contribute their time, small and large, and we Sanctuary Co-Leads are so grateful for all of you signed up for shifts. I've heard quite a few people say a Sanctuary volunteer "saved my Firefly experience", or even "saved me". To provide support for those volunteers, Sanctuary has the Logistics Supervisor role, but 11 of those shifts are not filled, and we need your help finding people for them. We hope you'll reach out to a friend who might be interested, perhaps that friend who loves helping behind the scenes but thought Sanctuary roles were only about supportive listening. Logistics Supervisors will: Assist other Sanctuary volunteers who have questions about policies and resources (the Co-Leads will train Logistics Supervisors to be able to do this). Shifts are 12hrs wandering on-call; they should not expect to be working that whole time, but rather to be called in 1 - 3 times. If they go to sleep they will set their radio to a channel that is only used when someone needs to be woken up. Attend the Volunteer Core Leads meeting that happens daily at 1 PM, and get to see how Firefly is run behind the scenes. Optional: If a Logistics Supervisor wants to offer their support to Sanctuary visitors, they can tell the volunteers on Support Shifts to offer this. We are also still looking to fill 10 Subject Matter Expert shifts, and we are 8 shifts short from having the ideal of 2+ people on each 4hr Support shift. No Diapers in the Portos In the interest of avoiding a repeat of last year's unpleasantness, please be advised that DIAPERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE PORTOS. If you or some member of your camp uses diapers, you are required to remove them from the property yourself. It should be common knowledge to anyone who attends an overnight festival that the only items that go into the portos are single-ply toilet paper and anything that has made the one way journey through your body. Exceptions can be made for vomiting, but I wouldn't recommend putting your head in there. Buckets with lids are available at Home Depot. Firefly Temple Etiquette Fireflies often leave objects and tokens in the temple, symbols or possessions of the past and of future intentions. Objects in the temple should be left undisturbed. Those guys get a T-shirt, but you get a sweet hat. It is also possible that at that time, GTFO and LNT will be smooth as silk and Gnomes can chill. In related news, there could be a few extra gnomes during the "Burn" of the bug on Friday or the Temple on Saturday, please consider. Exodus—Checks in passengers, coordinates staging area for luggage, makes sure passengers load gear onto trucks and busses in a timely manner, makes sure busses leave on time. Sign-ups are open for June Work Weekends Work Weekends are upon us! Get to know your fellow Fireflies and the land before the event—learn skills and break a sweat in scenic VT to boot! This year’s WW dates: WW1- May 31-June 02 WW2- June 07-09 [+Placement] WW3- June 21-23 *Signups are due by the Thursday before each weekend. The Basics — Work Weekends in June are when volunteers travel up to the event space and prepare it. This can include, but is not limited to: gathering sticks for the bug, repairing or creating new paths, and general maintenance. Volunteers arrive after 6pm on Fridays (May 31st, June 7th, and 21st) and are expected to vacate by 6pm on Sundays. Tasty lunch is provided by Work Weekend Corps(™) on Saturday with basic snacks and coffee available the rest of the weekend. There is a lot of do in a relatively small amount of time, so it’s important that if you are going to attend work weekends you understand that the crews and corps are there to work, this is not a ‘Firefly lite’ or party event. That being said, there is a lot of fun to be had and it’s an excellent way to meet new people if you are new to the event and/or the community. We accept and encourage anyone and everyone to volunteer and will make accommodations for those with specific needs. This year we are putting an emphasis on both Radical Inclusion and Radical Self-Reliance. You are encouraged to consider what these tenants mean to you and how best you can implement them for the betterment of yourself and the community at large. Work Weekends are an opportunity to roll your sleeves up and give some sweat to the festival, but there are endless different ways that can be accomplished. If you have ideas beyond what the webpage offers, feel free to contact Work Weekend Core to discuss. Placement Brunch — June 9th is placement brunch which begins at 12pm. It is strongly encouraged that, if your camp is sending reps to Placement Weekend, they be ready to contribute to the infrastructure work as well. The GTFO Vehicle Registration information is now a section within the Early Arrival application. We did this to streamline the process and reduce the amount of forms that people need to fill out. ***Pay attention for separate confirmation emails because it’s possible to receive Early Arrival approval as an individual, but have your Pinto rejected by GTFO.*** If you recently used last year’s link for GTFO Vehicle registration, you will need to include that info again when applying for Early Arrival. Smol Grants are awarded in lesser amounts than a full Creativity Grant (between $40 and $99), and are meant to help cover expenses associated with projects of a small (or “smol”) size or scope. The application process is also more lightweight and simply involves filling out a Google form. They are particularly designed to encourage creation by new participants and participants who haven’t brought art to Firefly before, but everyone is welcome to apply! Call for First Aid Volunteers Firefly First Aid is seeking people to be mobile response for minor injuries and healthcare issues! Call for volunteers: help make the Witch Lights move! The Witch Lights have been an evolving art installation for the last four Fireflies. This year, they will be moving around the festival, appearing in a new location every night! But I need help from the community for it to happen. Specifically, I need: Volunteers to assist in moving the lights and managing batteries Suggestions for when and where the Witch Lights should appear The Witch Lights are easy to break down, move, and install, as long as there's more than one person doing it. Accessibility Core Information for Participants As you might be aware Firefly is one of the most physically inaccessible burns in the country. This can limit who is able to attend the event. While we cannot make the mountain level, we can make things a bit easier for folks with any sort of long term or short term physical disability. 4 years ago Accessibility Squad was started by a determined and generous firefly with a couple carts and the goal to help as many folks who needed it as they could. This year we are excited to make our second year of Accessibility Core even better than first. We can help you get your gear to your camp. We have a vehicle and volunteer drivers to get your things up to the site and a brute squad/haulers to get your stuff the rest of the way. We will have volunteers available during most daylight hours during the event: Tuesday 7/2: 11 am-8 pm Wednesday 7/3: 8 am-8 pm Thursday 7/4: 8 am-8 pm Friday 7/5: 8 am-8 pm Saturday 7/6: 8 am-8 pm Sunday 7/7: 9 am-8 pm There will be two points of contact with us, the gate/greeters tent and the rangers tent. A comprehensive step by step guide on how to get accessibility help will be released in a coming edition of the Glowbe closer to the event. Important Accessibility Core Exodus Information Accessibility's ability to help is limited by two important factors, the weather and the total number of participants that need assistance. If there is bad weather we will not be able to run the carts to assist people. This is not something within our control and everyone using this service needs to know that bad weather could greatly impact your ability to get to or leave your campsite. If there is a high volume of people using accessibility services it could also impact our ability to assist in a timely fashion. Participants may not be able to leave when they would like to, but we will make all efforts to help in the fairest, most efficient way possible. We ask that all participants understand the limitations we are dealing with and plan accordingly. Exodus poses significant challenges as all participants will be leaving on the same day. Because of this all participants that are taking the bus will need to be ready to leave by 9:00 am on Sunday. We may not be able to reach you for hours but it's vital that people using the bus are ready to leave first thing in the morning. We are aware this is an additional challenge but it is the only way we can effectively move people down the mountain. Anyone not taking the bus during exodus may not be able to get assistance until the afternoon. Again, please plan accordingly. We have not capped the number of people able to sign up for accessibility yet but a cap could be implemented in future years if we run into volume issues. Accessibility will still help in anyway we can if there are issues but we can not promise timely assistance.
