Good morning Firefly's! We have opened registration for Safety Third Getaway Weekend on May 15-17 in Scarborough, Maine to any Firefly that is interested in volunteering for a Firefly Safety Core. What is Safety Third Weekend Getaway you ask? It is a training/social weekend for Firefly Medical, Rangers, Sanctuary and FAST (Fire Art Safety Team) volunteers. TJ Kozma, Deanna Duffey and Rhonda Forester will be hosting for the second year in a row for Firefly volunteers. The weekend is jam packed with goodness! A formal training for your Core, cross-trainings with the other Safety Cores and new training sessions for all Cores. We are introducing Incident Command System this year to be better prepared for incidents and emergencies. Arrive anytime after 5pm on Friday or before training starts on Saturday at 9am. Training on Saturday goes til 6pm. Then social time and bonfire Saturday night- get to know members of all Safety Departments. Sunday will be more training after breakfast with a Q&A session before putting our learning's to use in a mock scenario or two. Its going to be an awesome opportunity to get involved, get trained and meet Safety Core Leads and volunteers. There will be a small fee to attend of $25 this will go towards food for the weekend. Bring your own drinks. The location will be at our house in Scarborough, Maine. 15 minutes south of Portland easily accessible by bus and train from Boston. We have plenty of inside meeting/sleeping space in the barn, carriage house and house if needed. We are hoping for some warmer weather, nice enough to be outside for those that want to camp out. Plenty of yard and forest space for camping and meeting. Bring yer tent! Full Disclosure- This is not a party weekend. Firefly 2015 Open House: Sat, May 2nd, 7-10pm

Hello Fireflies! Please join us for the 2015 Firefly Open House - Saturday, May 2nd from 7pm - 10pm. We're changing the format a little from previous years' Town Hall, with the hope of engaging more of our wonderful community with all things Firefly! This year, instead of a presentation/meeting style event, the Open House will be a chance for Fireflies to come meet each other and mingle, learn about the cores, meet core leads, have a forum to give feedback, and volunteer! As an Open House style event, we'll have tables setup with all the cores represented including an introduction and information table. Hi Fireflies, Firefly Ticket registration is open! If you've attended at least one Firefly you're eligible to Ranger. If you are interested in Rangering at Firefly and want to learn more about what Rangers do check out the Firefly Ranger website and fill out this year's Ranger survey. Hello Fireflies, Many have asked, and the answer so far has been "not yet"... but it's time to change that answer to "soon"! Registration for the Firefly 2015 Ticket Lottery will begin soon! Firefly ticketing will work similarly to last year: 1. During the lottery registration period (dates to be announced, but within the next couple of weeks), each individual seeking a ticket signs up on the Firefly Ticketing website and confirms their registration by mailing in a signed waiver via USPS. 2. After the lottery registration period, the lottery is held to put all confirmed registrations in random order. 3. Ticket offers are sent to the top entries on the list, and a waitlist created for ticket turnover after that. 4. Individuals who register on the website or confirm their registration after the initial period are added to the waitlist in the order their waiver is received. 5. Tickets will once again be non-transferable and tied to your name and birth date. If you can't attend, you can--and should!--return your ticket for a refund so it can be offered to the next person on the waitlist. Details such as event dates and prices for tickets and parking passes will be posted soon to the Firefly-Announce email list, the Firefly Facebook group, and our website at http://fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/tickets/--all of the places this message is posted. As always, send your questions, comments, concerns, and thematically-appropriate lemur pictures (but please, no bribes) to tickets(a)fireflyartscollective.org. Hi Fireflies! Just a final reminder that Creativity Grant and Legacy Grant applications are due *this Saturday, February 28, by midnight*. Grants are being handled this year through the Art Grants web portal - please submit your grants here: http://grants.fireflyartscollective.org/ You can read more details on Creativity Grants, intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects and available in $150, $300, $500, and $700 tiers, here: http://fireflyartscollective.org/art-grants/creativity-grants/ You can read more details on Legacy Grants, available to *returning* projects that need funding for minor repairs and modifications, here: http://fireflyartscollective.org/art-grants/legacy-grants/ *Art Grants Committee:* If you're not submitting your own grant application, but would still like to help make these grants happen, we still need a couple more people to join the Creativity Grants committee! *1. *You must have attended at least 1 (one) previous Firefly in order to join and participate in this most august of selection committees. *2. *You must not be applying for a 2015 Art Grant. *3. *You must be available for both of the meeting discussion dates, taking place at Velir in Davis Square. These will be beer and dinner-fueled and may be lively at times: * Thursday March 5, 7 to 10 pm * Thursday March 12, 7 to 10 pm *4. *Commit to reading and recording your thoughts on over 40 applications, which may take 4 - 6 hours of brain time. *The Intense Details:* The job requires a lot of reading and talking, as we typically receive over 35+ applications for Creativity Grants. We will have 2 meetings over the course of 2 weeks to make decisions about which grants to fund. This is a commitment of about 10 hours; 4-6 hours of reading and cogitating and two 2-hour meetings where we hash it all out. Once the application deadline has passed, the committee has about a week to read the applications over and fill out a review sheet to decide how well each application met the criteria. We review the applications for Thoughtfulness, Creativity, and Feasibility. This is followed by an evening dinner and beer/wine-fueled meeting where we compare notes and see if we have any follow-up questions for the applicants (we *always* have follow-up questions). We wait a week to give time for artists to get their replies back to us, then we meet again and make our final decisions.
