FIREFLY 2015: CREATIVITY AND LEGACY GRANT APPLICATIONS DUE IN TWO WEEKS! ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) Over the years, the Firefly Arts Collective, (FAC), has been proud to provide grant support to Firefly artists to enable them to express and fulfill their varied creative visions. These grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Bethel over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. Art grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Creativity Grants are available in $150, $300, $500, and $700 tiers. Legacy Grants are available to *returning* projects that need funding for minor repairs and modifications. Firefly Art Grants: Temple/Lace Deadline Extension + Final Call for Committee Members

Hi Fireflies! Happy Valentine's Day <3 <3 <3 We love you all so much, *we decided to extend the deadline for Lace and Temple Grants to this coming Monday, 2/16, at midnight. *This will be the absolute deadline to apply for these grants, so please submit applications as soon as you can! Applications can be submitted through the grants website: http://grants.fireflyartscollective.org/artists More information on Lace Grants and Temple Grants and the application process can be found on the Firefly website: http://fireflyartscollective.org/art-grants/lace-grants/ http://fireflyartscollective.org/art-grants/temple-grant/ We'd also like to send out *one last call for Art Grant Committee members!* *Requirements:* *1. *You must have attended at least 1 (one) previous Firefly in order to join and participate in this most august of selection committees. *2. *You must not be applying for a 2015 Art Grant. *3. *You must be available for all of the meeting discussion dates, taking place at Velir in Davis Square. These will be beer and dinner-fueled and may be lively at times: * Thursday February 19, 7 to 9 pm * Thursday February 26, 7 to 9 pm * Thursday March 5, 7 to 9 pm * Thursday March 12, 7 to 9 pm *4. *Commit to reading and recording your thoughts on over 40 applications, which may take 4 - 6 hours of brain time. *The Intense Details:* The job requires a lot of reading and talking, as we typically receive over 35 applications for Creativity Grants and a smaller pool of Lace and Temple Grants. We will have 2 weeks to make our decisions for the 2 sets of grants, with two meetings per grant. That's a total of 4 meetings altogether. This is a commitment of about 15-20 hours; 6-8 hours of reading and cogitating and four 2-hour meetings where we hash it all out. Once the application deadline has passed, the committee has about a week to read the applications over and fill out a review sheet to decide how well each application met the criteria. We review the applications for Thoughtfulness, Creativity, and Feasibility. This is followed by an evening dinner and beer/wine-fueled meeting where we compare notes and see if we have any follow-up questions for the applicants (we *always* have follow-up questions). We wait a week to give time for artists to get their replies back to us, then we meet again and make our final decisions. Firefly News: Event Dates, Board Members, and More!

Fireflies, We're well into 2015, and planning for this year's Firefly Arts Collective festival is well underway. We have exciting news to share! DATES FOR FIREFLY 2015: JUNE 30 - JULY 5 The news you've all been waiting for: Firefly 2015 will be held from Tuesday, June 30 through Sunday, July 5. Holding a 6-day event was a great success last year and we've continued it into this year. Mark your calendars! Tickets for Firefly 2015 will be available in early March, via a similar lottery process as last year. NEW BOARD MEMBERS Following up on our request for feedback in December, we've added three new members to the Firefly Board of Directors. Heather Panic, Kendra Pugh, and Drew Van Zandt have joined us for a lucky 13 set of board members. As always, we welcome feedback on the operation and future of Firefly Arts Collective at board(a)fireflyartscollective.org . DONATIONS TO FIREFLY ARTS COLLECTIVE Your ticket purchases for our annual festival fund the production of the event, our year-round planning, and most importantly funding for art at Firefly, Somerville Open Studios, FIGMENT Boston and beyond. Over the past nine years, Firefly has spent nearly $78,000 on direct and indirect support for the arts both at Firefly and in Boston, and nearly a quarter of Firefly's budget has gone to fund this art. We've introduced two new ways you can support Firefly Arts Collective financially beyond participating in our festival. First, we've added a "Donate" button to our website, which allows you to make a tax-deductible donation to Firefly via our payment processor WePay. FIREFLY 2015: LACE & TEMPLE GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) Over the years, the Firefly Arts Collective, (FAC), has been proud to provide grant support to Firefly artists to enable them to express and fulfill their varied creative visions. These grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Bethel over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. Art grants are intended to support and promote radically-expressive, community-based, interactive and/or collaborative projects that help define and shape the creative core of the event. The *Lace Grants* are intended to support projects of a larger and more ambitious scale than the typical Creativity Grant project (hence the grant amount of $1000, rather than the Creativity Grant's maximum amount of $700). These projects not only serve as spectacles at Firefly, but also represent Firefly outside of our July event at Open Studios, FIGMENT Boston, and other similar events. These projects must be appropriately large in scale, spectacular, and suitable for presentation at a variety of venues. The *Temple Grant* supports the creation of the Temple at Firefly Arts Festival each year. The Temple aims to satisfy both civic and spiritual needs by creating a sacred gathering space at Firefly. The Temple is placed in the field, and provides a space for Fireflies to seek quiet contemplation and introspection at the event. It is of the utmost importance that the Temple defines a physical (and emotional) space; that said, it does not have to be a traditional shelter or building. SAVE THE DATES: 2015 ART GRANT TIMELINE FOR FIREFLIES ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) ლ(╹◡╹ლ) It's that time of year again when we all start thinking about what kind of art we might want to bring to the woods of Vermont this July! Art is a central part of Firefly, and the event wouldn't be the same without the wonderful pieces that have been brought to Bethel over the years. Bringing art is a great way to add a piece of yourself to the event and contribute/participate in a meaningful way. Because the timeline will be a bit different this year, we wanted to give everyone a heads up before officially opening up applications. There are five types of grants this year: - Creativity Grants: basic grants awarded in $100, $300, $500, and $700 tiers, for projects coming to Firefly Arts Festival - Legacy Grant: small grants to assist returning projects to Firefly. - Burner Exchange Grant: Mid-range grants to help transport art from other burns to Firefly (timeline still TBD!). - Lace Grants: which are awarded to spectacular, larger projects that will appear at both Firefly Arts Festival. - Temple Grant: A grant to build the Temple at Firefly Arts Festival. Conduct Committee Member Feedback

Dear Fireflies, Earlier this year the board invited community members to voluntarily serve on the Conduct Committee as it relates to the Code of Conduct <http://fireflyartscollective.org/firefly/policies/> and associated policies. Several Fireflies have stepped forward, participated in a series of trainings developed in conjunction with the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, and have begun to frame out a highly organized approach to committee operations. Before we launch the Conduct Committee, we would like your feedback on the following list of committee members. Please consider each committee member's ability to serve on the Conduct Committee. This difficult work calls for Fireflies who are known for their confidentiality, respectfulness, patience, objectivity and dependability. Soliciting Feedback on the Firefly Arts Collective Directors and Candidates

Dear Fireflies, In October, we sent out an open call for interest in joining the Board of Directors of Firefly Arts Collective. We received a number of enthusiastic responses, and invited five participants to meet with the current board to better understand how we operate. This is a process that we intend to repeat in the future as we encounter a normal progression of participation in our organization. We would now like to solicit community feedback on the candidates under consideration for joining the Firefly Board. We also welcome feedback on current board members, to help keep us accountable to our community. For the participants listed below, please consider the following thoughts as you write us: 1) Do you feel that the candidate is well-suited for participating on the Board of Directors, based on your experience and our bylaws (http://fireflyartscollective.org/about-fac/firefly-bylaws/)? 2) What are some qualities in the candidate that would assure success as a member of the Firefly Board? 3) If you have worked with the candidate on a project before, what was that experience like? 4) Is there anything else you would like to share about the candidate? When considering your feedback, keep in mind that beyond the yearly camping festival, we are working to expand the year-round activities of Firefly Arts Collective. Firefly continues to collaborate with Somerville Open Studios and Figment Boston to bring more community art to our cities, and we are working to have a year-round gallery space available for displays and classes. We seek members who are excited not just in helping coordinate our festival, but who also have the time and energy to expand and strengthen our regional community.
